Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Minecraft officially announced for Wii U

Minecraft is already available on just about every platform around, from smartphones to PC to consoles, but there's always been one notable absence: Nintendo hardware. That's about to change, though, as Nintendo has announced that the sandbox game is on its way to the Wii U. The game will launch on December 17th for $29.99, and looks to be largely the same as other console versions of the game.

The one notable difference, however, is that
Minecraft on Wii U will support off-TV play, so that you can play it on the Gamepad when your TV is otherwise occupied. The game will also be launching alongside a bevy of downloadable content, including skin packs based on everything from The Simpsons to Star Wars. Nintendo also says that it is working with developer Mojang to create "new content for Nintendo fans to be released at a future date." Expect to hear news on that soon.

With the exception of the spin-off Minecraft: Story Mode, this will be the first timeMinecraft is available on Nintendo hardware. And moving forward, Minecraft will be launching on a number of new devices soon, as well, including the Oculus Riftand Microsoft's own Hololens.

I thought MS owns Minecraft?

About time. It made zero sense for it to not be on Nintendo platforms. Now it needs a 3DS version.

29.99? And digital only?I guess it was digital only one most consoles at first but whats the reason for the price hike?

29.99?

Looking to see what kind of exclusive content the Wii U version of Minecraft will bring.

$30 is a bit pricey, tho.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Minecraft wasn't exclusive before buying it, and they said that after buying it, they weren't going to make it exclusive.

To them, minecraft has more potential for revenue by expanding the franchise, not by limiting it (which makes sense). They also have a reason to do so

I don't know if the DLC packs that are in the game are also in all the other versions but whatever case it is some skins make up only for let's say 5$; the real point in the higher price might be in the controls since they should have gamepad functionalities so that they can use it as a crafting table or whatever they think is more useful...

$30?

Why are Nintendo console games so expensive...
