Forums - Sony - FF7 is turn-based, but without pauses in the action.

I say let us wait. FFXV originally had a different battle system, and remember FF13's initial action based battle system? Look at how that changed. Things change and judging on how change is very common on Square-enix' recent game announcements have been I expect great changes to be made on this one as well. Remember this is the FIRST ever footage of its gameplay and they tend to show very early concept systems on their first footage.

If you look closely, you can see what looks to be cloud and Barrett performing their first limit breaks, big shot and braver once the fighting starts. Could be wrong but that's what it looks like.

I didn't mind the acting as much as the snycing.

From what I've noticed:

  • Every time a character attacks, the first large gauge next to their name fills up.
  • The first gauge goes lower after not attacking for a while.
  • Then when it's full and it turns red, the character uses a more powerful attack.

What if those more powerful attacks are the equivalent of Commands? Instead of your ATB filling with TIME, it fills with ATTACKS.

 

The ATB has evolved, and it's freakin epic, believe it!



its funny that im on ps4 and playing FF7 and then i look at my friends list and everyone is playing all these modern games like COD,Fallout 4

you're essentially correct, and those saying otherwise are just playing with semantics

a turn based game, RPG or otherwise, requires a literal pause for a player to make decisions. Games with real time action where you pick from hot key attacks or item options or whatever are obviously not turn based

You realize that almost every FF has not been like this....

Unless you purposely set the ATB to Wait, there is never any literal pause for a player to make decisions, except for Final Fantasy X.
