Haven't initial impressions of the cockpit finer aiming controls been good?

Definitely a no. The whole point of the Wii U was novel gameplay with split screens.

No, they've been bad.

Nah. The game is going to play smoothly and that's what mainly matters to me in the technical space. As long as it controls well, and the game itself is aggressive enough, then exploring new gameplay mechanics over graphics should be the focus. It would have been a mistake for Sin & Punishment: SS to be released if they didn't try to add the wiimotes to the game. Despite the graphics not being great, that game was phenomenal.

My only qualm mow would be the quality of content

the way the creators were describing it the gamepad is the reason they made star fox on wii u not the other way around.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Yes, this game is made on pure nostalgia. If not for the gamepad there would be no reason for making it. It will also sell on pure nostalgia as the market for flight games is very small nowdays (see: Warhawk/Starhawk - IL-2 Sturmovik - Blazing Angels - Birds of Steel etc.).

In the last trailer, I thought the visuals were ok. Nothing mind blowing by any means, but they get the job done. They scream Starfox to me, and that's all that's important.

60fps gameplay will make for a really smooth ride. While I love outstanding visuals just like the next guy, this is not something I've come to expect from the Wii U, so I am not that concerned about the way it looks. Sure, the first footage of the game looked really bland, but the latest videos makes it look "Starfox" enough to me.

So let's see what they have in store, from a gameplay perspective, when it comes to the second screen.

The game is purposedly meant to look remeniscent of the N64 game.

I would trade de second screen activity for the extra gamepad battery life. The graphics are fine for what they are meant to be.

You can only look at one screen at the same time so yes. They could just implement the first person view by letting you push a button.

i think the gamepads first person view is by far the biggest waste of resources in any game in recent years. utterly useless.

nobody is going to use it. nobody is going to look down mid fight to use the first person view. i mean holy fuck other games do it on the fly with a press of a button. that would have been a MUCH better solution. just press a button and switch views. its really that simple.

its a stupid gimmick. and its sad, because i was hoping for a great starfox game to be made, that would make me interested in getting a WiiU down the line. this just has disappointment written all over it.

Wii U also have great visuals despite its very weaker than Xbox One/PS4.

This I agree with; games like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Trine 2 Director's Cut, and Yoshi's Woolly World look beautiful on Wii U. The console may not be a technical powerhouse, but it's fully capable of producing visually pleasing games.

Pikmin 3, Zelda WW HD, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and Yoshi Woolly World are all have great visuals and they graphically belongs to this gen even if they technically are not on level of some PS4/Xbox One games, despite Wii U is much weaker than XboxOne/PS4. Something like that couldn't said for Wii games in comparison with Xbox 360/PS3 games.

What, no love for Captain Toad or Trine? :P

Starfox's graphics don't even really both me personally; hell, I still regularly play Wii and even N64 games, so low res visuals don't spoil the fun for me. But I'm aware that for many other people, graphics do play an important role in their enjoyment of a game, and between this and the general distaste for novelty control methods these days, Starfox Zero would sell more in my opinion if it had standard controls and graphics more on the level of, say, Mario Kart 8.
