Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD: Halo 5 Sold Less than 1M in October

Coming from the worst selling Forza ever, now the worst selling mainline Halo ever, im worried about Gears 4 next year.

Will it break the streak? Ot the "worst selling" strike will continue full circle with Microsoft biggest franchises next year with Gears?

Three "flops" in a row (of these 3 games specifically) would be catastrophical for Microsoft.

Forza, Gears and Halo are their staples.

This is the problem you get when you hook the success of your console on three IPs. If they fail, the console fails. It takes time to establish new IPs and Sony already have a leg up with TLOU, Until Dawn and Bloodborne. All three of these games are going to see increases in sales come their second iteration. Risk can come at a price, as shown by The Order, but it also comes with long term benefits if you're willing to take many risks.

I'm also worried about tomb raider next month.  Fable legends has also fallen off the radar.  Not looking good for their exclusives.

I'm way too engrossed in Fallout 4 to give a shit about Halo 5 sales, but if it sold 930k+ copies including bundles in the week or so it was available, then it's pretty safe to say it broke 1 million in October and thus the thread is incorrect.

Well i expected it to show a decline, but not this big. It's clear they should give the franchise a rest now. Gears of War won't fair much better i'm afraid.

Gears 4 is not Halo, Halo 6 or FPS. What's the correlation?

It's a shooter and it got three games plus a spin-off on Xbox 360.(Halo got a spin-off aswell). Just like Halo, the franchise has been exhausted and interest has cooled off. That's why most studios stick to a thrilogy.

That's why Naughty Dog alway's switches to a new project each gen, and the only reason why UC4 is happening is because the demand is huge. Also Uncharted didn't get a lower quality installment, and those are alway's bad for a franchise.

Holy shit. Never in my life I would've expected this from Halo.

So this is the retail number without bundles and digital sales, right?

Can you at least admit that the game underperformed?

It didn't sell as much as before but I don't know if the "less than 1M" statement is true. That said, it underperformed for a Halo game. For a game it still did very well.

Includes bundles

Never mind

I think it's obvious that they just included all HW that week, pretending it was all due to Halo 5, which is complete BS.  MS has really gotten shady with their numbers lately.

i just don't get how they could get to 400 million dollars in one week without the sales of halo 5 being at least in the 2.5 mill range worldwide. Because even if you add in all hardware for the week like you said its tops 250,000 consoles sold, which even if they were all sold at 500 dollars (highly unlikely) would get to 125 million. Controller sales I have no idea but I'd hazard a guess at no more than 200,000 is 12 million and then you have the microtransactions which i believe had a figure of $500,000.

Tell me if i left anything out or my deduction is wrong but thats a total of $138 million lets say so it leaves $262 million dollars. I'm not suggesting thats all sales of the game but it definitely adds up to the game selling more than 900,000 in its main territory.

Well I think ethomaz is right, too. It's all hardware, even those not connected to Halo AND it's shipping numbers, not sell-through.

If they are indeed counting "shipped" which is where MS actually makes their revenue, then it's likely that is where the values come from.

Right? I mean, yeah 250k consoles, at an average of 400$ (500$ is just too much. Lots of deals that week)= 100m
Game=60$...

even if we take off like 50m for microtransactions, and controllers, it's still 250m, which would necessitate 4.2m copies of the game.
Really, the majority MUST be from consoles.

I would imagine 500k shipped bundle consoles @400$ WW=200m
2.5m copies shipped @60$= 150m
50m for peripherals

Now remember that shipped is going to be about 10-15% less for revenue, so maybe something closer to 600k consoles.

it's gotta be shipped.

My mind is blown!

Up until earlier this year, I thought Halo Guardians was some sort of spinoff or TV show. They throw the Halo name on so much stuff. These companies need to protect their brands.

Halo, ODST, Reach, MCC, Spartan Assault, Wars--in the end, I guess people got burned out. If I was M$, I'd be sitting bricks.
