Very surprising and great choice. Breaks my rule for Smash rosters, but since it's DLC and since Cloud is so iconic, it gets a pass.

This.definitely in development well before the ballot considering the stage detail.

I mean I really didn't see this coming. Wow, such an announcement!

Why wouldn't they further capitalize on the newfound fanbase that Cloud will create?


I'm not saying ff7 will not come to nx, it's just pretty obvious that third party characters in SSB have very little to do with hints at future releases or partnerships, and taking this as solid gold may let you down when the time comes. No metal gear came to wii, no Street fighter v or 4 is coming to wii u or nx. This is independant, and similar to various costumes coming to lbp, you don't see marvel mash up pack hinting at anything major marvel releasing, it's just free money & marketing

Agreed, just because Cloud is being added to smash/potential amiibo, does not mean that the WiiU or NX will receive the remake or any version of FF7 for that matter.

What it does mean however is that Nintendo are slowly opening up to licensing opportunities to keep the revenue stream flowing, something they pretty much have to do because they don't have enough of their own well known game characters to keep Amiibo relevant in the longterm if they don't license third party characters too.

They've released, what, 6 versions of mario now? standard, smash, gold, silver, 8bit color a, 8bit color b? just how many versions of the same characters do people think Nintendo can put out before sales take a nosedive? - Licensing other characters and putting those characters in games like smash is a way to keep Amiibo relevant.

It should NOT be taken as indication of future games coming to the system, not unless you like dissapointment.
