Forums - Gaming Discussion - Personal Opinion: I am glad America is taking over the gaming industry again.

I am a patriotic yankee doody doo as some of you may know. However, I just have to say from 6th generation to 7th/8th generation I am glad America took over the gaming industry. Before (6th generation) the Japanese developers/publishers ruled everything pretty much, but that is not the case anymore. America is rising and it will continue. More money, more jobs and better life style for all of us. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I don't think it matters where the game came from as long as it's good.

Yeah... I just like good games. Where they come from isn't exactly my concern. I play games from Japan, US, Europe, etc.

Frankly, I wish we saw more interesting games from Japan. I played a lot of Japanese games on the Xbox 360. I almost certainly won't play as many this gen.

This is obviously the most important point.

At the OP, although my taste in video games tends to lean towards western developers for the post part, I do not share your enthusiasm for America 'taking over'. Surely it's better to have diversity, a wealth of different artistic visions and game genres as opposed to the entire industry being run by a single nation/culture?

Last gen with the 360/PS3/Wii the Japanese haven't done so well a it was pretty much dominated by America. This gen is very different. So far it's 50/50 but looking ahead. It looks VERY Japanese dominated and so far this year has been pretty much owned by the Japanese developers. Look at the chartz and the Japanese games are higher in quality than the American games this year, save for a few. Arkham Knight was quite amazing.

Though imo The Phantom Pain, Bloodborne, and Revelations 2 (some may disagree) are the best games of the year. Major's Mask (this is a full remake), we also got Xenoblade X which looks like it could be good.

The Uncharted Collection is more or less a port, Halo V isn't so hot, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is good, The Witcher IS EUROPEAN. I think Fallout 4 is going to do great and I'm a little hit and miss with Battlefront III. Don't get me wrong, it's a really fun game.... but something feels missing from the BF and BF II days.

I got to say I disagree. I think both Japan and America are doing great this gen, however the Japanese have been setting the bar high and the coming years are looking to be even higher. America is in no way dominating this generation. They are about even but I would inch Japan ahead but a slight margin. Also... not to be rude, but the Xbox One is totally the most successful console on the market........

Yeah...what? Who cares where a game comes from?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I am as patriotic as they come and more tech jobs in America is great.

I will say it's more of a fact that my taste has changed as opposed to being patriotic. When I was a kid I only played JP games. Mario, MK, FF, RE, Onimusha, DQ, MGS, etc etc etc with the occasional Lucas Arts game and Crash game here and there. Fair to say that - at that time - my favorite developers probably were Nintendo, Square/SE, Capcom, Konami.

Nowadays though, I gotta say my taste is almost 100% western (which includes EU developed games). Favorite games last generation were Uncharted 2, TLOU, Portal, L4D1+2, GTAV, RDR, Killzone 2. My favorite developers today are Naughty Dog, Valve, R*, and the like. I'm really looking forward to Uncharted 4 and Horizon.

I think JP developers have not kept up with western developers.

naaa i'm not japanese developed games are amazing, wish they'd advance their tech and step up too , wish it was balanced like the ps2 era where everyone was doing amazing
