Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GoldenEye on N64: Miyamoto wanted to remove the killing

Not surprising at all, because that was what Nintendo always have been trying to do..

Lol. Sometimes Nintendo baffles me. Alienating core fans is bad business. Good thing they ignored him.

WTF... No wonder third parties jumped ship during the 5th generation consoles...

What do 3rd parties have to do with Miyamoto?

You honestly don't think Nintendo placed demands on 3rd party developers during that era?

Think about it.. isn't strange that the best spy ever needs to kill so many henchmen?

Miyamoto probably had the same mentality Hideo Kojima had when creating Metal Gear. He probably felt it would be best if James Bond would try to avoid confrontations. In some ways, this would make sense for a secret agent. In other ways, not so much since even though James Bond does get the job done, he is still the world's worst secret agent.

Also, could there be a chance that they mistranslated what Miyamoto was trying to say? The Metroid Prime team did that and almost left a crucial part of the game out. Miyamoto told them that Samus should have a bug's head. They thought he literally meant that so that artist's started sketching Samus with a bug's head. It wasn't until later they realized that he meant to say that the player should have the ability to change what Samus gets to see through her visor.

It's also interesting to know that Goldeneye was originally going to be just as violent as Perfect Dark. I'm guessing because of Goldeneye's sales, NIntendo didn't seem to have a problem with the violence in Perfect Dark.

They did, but it was expected by Nintendo that only a handful of developers could afford developing games on N64. But it turned out, that it was the 7th console generation that ended up running out of money, not the fifth.

Unfortunately, Paper Mario team listen to his "suggestions".

This.

The man is a legend, don't get me wrong, but every now and then he has some really awkward blunders.

*Cough Wii Music *cough

However it's understandable to have blunders when you are constatly trying new things.

This sounds a little too strange to be 100% accurate. Especially given this came near the end of development and suggested things that weren't clear game mechanics (or even technologically feasible, in reference to the "shaking hands with every enemy at the hospital" thing). I would imagine that Miyamoto was just voicing his dislike for the violence in the game, rather than offering genuine, serious suggestions.

I don't know, having Bond go from enemy to enemy and saying he's sorry for killing them during the credits does sound like a funny idea. Would've been better than the kissing marathon at the very least.

Well, Miyamoto made Pikmin later on so clearly he had a change of heart.

lol really!! small innocent creatures dying under the cruelty of nature, and having their soul floating upwards until it vanishes :S
