Forums - Movies & TV - Two more Mad Max films coming, says Miller director

- George Miller confirmed to TopGear.com:

“So we ended up with two scripts, without really trying,”

“We’re talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I’m not so sure.”

- On how a sequel to Beyond Thunderdome had two previous failed attempts to make it happen:

“This film [Fury Road] was green lit three times and fell over three times over a decade,”

“We went to shoot with Mel Gibson back in 2001, but then 9/11 happened, and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar close to 30 per cent, so we lost that amount of budget overnight.”

- the 2001 film was temporarily shelved, Miller went off to direct Happy Feet and came back to Max. But then rain happened in Australia:

“We were then rained out of Australia,”

“The desert rained for the first time in 15 years, and we ended up in South West Africa, Namibia. But in this process, we had dug down deep into the backstory, not only of the characters, but of every vehicle. How the steering wheels became religious artefacts and things like that."

- Miller said though that before going back to Mad Max he would like to film something different:

“I want to do a small film without special effects before I do any of that, just to do it quickly,”

“We shot Fury Road for eight months… that’s a lot. Every day in the heat and the dust, doing these stunts, it’s very wearing. We’ve got two more planned, but at some point in the future.”

I loved Fury Road so want to see Max have another adventure meeting a different city of odd characters.

im normaly not a fan of sequels, BUT, this is a real lovechild and they want to tell their storys realy badly.

so yes pls!

I predict that the sequels will be even more popular considering the impact the first film made :).

fuck yes.... Fury road was fantastic.

Hopefully we get an actual Mad Max movie this time.

One where we find out who these people are he keeps seeing in Fury Road, and one where we find out how he repairs his car again?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

fury road was a huge disappointment, seemed to be written by people that thought mad max was just an action picture with cool vehicles and no story. But then it was a hard act to follow on the originals. think I would prefer they left this alone rather than screw it up further with another sequel.

Actually this was explained in the prequel comic books:

and it has to do with Max trying to repair his car, interestingly enough. xD

Hopefully they'll have a good plot this time. Leave/Return isn't what I call a compelling plot.
