No need for that... the levels that gamers come up with in Mario Maker will exceed anything Nintendo does when it comes to 2D Mario.  They haven't made an original 2D Mario game that didn't need to rely on nostalgia and old gameplay / level design tropes since SMW2 Yoshi's Island.

Which is especially distressing since Yoshi's Island isn't even a Mario game!

And thats why new Mario 2D game needs change of NSMB concept and formula.

Good! NSMB was a great come back for the series, but it's time to drop the "New" and start something new. Hopefully they'll start to push and elevate the genre again. I always found the 2D segments in SMG to be very interesting

I think he's getting tired of being just in Miyamoto's shadow, maybe it's just me.

I wonder what he wants to work on aside from Mario, though. Good-Feel's just finished up with Yoshi's Woolly World, and he was very involved with that, so it appears that he wants to do another yarny title.

Here's to hoping it isn't just Mario given the yarn treatment!

Meh, the Yarn stuff is getting kinda boring, they should keep it in Yoshi games because YWW was the best game they made with this mechanic. If Tezuka says something New, I hope he means TOTALLY new...

While I like how KEY and YWW turned out, I want something that really brings the full potential of yarn - and that isn't going to be possible with just ripping gameplay from an established franchise and calling it a day.
