Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How would you rate the Nintendo published software output this year?

I'll score games I got and hype games I intend to get

First the remake of Majora's Mask, I can't think of any way for them to improve the game, so I'll just go with 10/10 and move on

-Kirby: 8/10, took some getting used to but it grew on me

-Mario v DK: 7.5/10, I've always enjoyed the series and knocking out a level when you've got a couple minutes is rather fun. Could have used more levels though

-Mario Party 10: 7/10, The mini games are fun but only 10 bowser games, and when will they catch on that we don't care for this "ride together" thing? Winners and losers are also now more random than ever. Also, no online play? Really? It's perfect for that! I'm tempted to give it a 6/10 but I had a great time with some family so I rounded up.

-Xenoblades Chronicles 3D: Hype 8/10, in the distant theoretical future when I've finally upgraded after getting my hands on a majoras mask new 3ds for a semi reasonable price I'll pick this one up.

-Splatoon: 10/10, easily my favorite IP this year out of the Wii U, PS4, and PC (don't own an xbox1). Few games quite capture that feeling of pure, unadulterated fun like this one.

-Super Mario Maker: Hype 10/10, I could not be more excited for this game.

-Chibi-Robot: Hype 7/10, it's not very well known but I really like this quirky little series.

-Yoshi's Woolly World: Hype 9/10, I've seen the gameplay footage and it looks like a stellar, beautiful experience

-Fatal Frame: Hype 10/10, when I first saw the wii u gamepad I hoped for new editions of Pokemon Snap and Fatal Frame, as it was so clearly perfect for both series. That I'm getting one has me overjoyed, and this could definitely be among my favorite games of the generation if they do it right.

-Legend of Zelda Triforce: Hype 8/10, the more I see from this the more intrigued I am. Going through the game with two others online and solving puzzles with one another are certainly a deviation from the norm for nintendo, and it actually looks like a lot of fun assuming you don't wind up with a particularly dense person in your game.

-Star Fox Zero: Hype 10/10, as I watch the released information it is increasingly looking like the dream sequel that my crushed young spirit thought it had when it picked up Starfox Adventure for the gamecube (good game, but wtf why star fox? YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID THERE NINTENDO, DONT PLAY DUMB lol). The gameplay looks wonderful, the gyro controls being options is great just in case they arent ideal (though they made good use of them in splatoon)... It just looks like the star fox game I, as a person who loved it for the SNES and hold the n64 version as one of my favorite games of all time, have always wanted.

-Xenoblade Chronicles X: Hype 9.5/10, not quite 10 as it's not on par with the other 10's I listed, but I'm exceedingly stoked for this one. I suspect I'll either love it or find it boring, but I'd give the "loved it" far better odds.

I really think Nintendo's year can only be ranked poorly with the lack of third party support in mind. Otherwise, there's some wonderful titles available, some of which i suspect we'll remember fondly in the future akin to how we perceive past classics.

Of course, I also have a ps4, PC, and am quite busy, so this is more than enough for me (I'm already back logged and most of the wii u releases are coming in the next few months). Still, I think these 4/10 ratings and such are unduly harsh... Heck, who knew there was anything left to add to a tired and overworked shooting genre before Splatoon threw its hat in the ring? Obviously the gaping absence that would have really knocked this year up into "superb" status is Zelda Wii U, but it's still a quality year in my opinion.

Also, before anyone asks why my scores are generally quite high, consider that I'm closing in on 30, have a good idea of what I like at this point, watch plenty of gameplay before buying a game, and didn't list any games I'm not interested in. Really, it's a rare day that I dislike a game I purchase... Hopefully there's no more Starfox Adventures in my future :D

Pretty excellent year on the whole. Majora's Mask, Splatoon, Xenoblade 3D, Mario Maker and Xenoblade X are all/have been pretty huge deals for me personally. Not many devs make 5 games you love in a single year. Probably not quite as good as their 2013, which was one of the best Nintendo years on record. But better than average.

So far the releases have been very few and far in between on the Wii U, but that's going to change towards the end of the year. I'm going to get Fatal Frame, Mario Maker and StarFox day 1.

Captain Toad - 8
Splatoon - 9
Yoshi's Wooly World - 7,5

Better than average I would say. Splatoon and Mario Maker will be the two games that define the Wii U and will be carried on to the NX.

Mario Maker won't without a touchscreen!

Who says the NX won't have a touchscreen? The portable NX is obviously gaurunteed to have one.

It's amazing how many more games Ninty released/will release for 3DS as compared to WiiU this year. They really did mess up with WiiU's line-up this gen, sad.

ehm they have more Wii U games upcoming than 3DS games

I can't speak about the 3DS, but Splatoon, Mario Maker and Star Fox will mark a successful year of Wii U games.

Feel free to check out my stream on twitch

Right now its 5/10 since Yoshi's Woolly world was good and Splatoon is alright, but looking at the line up for the rest of the year, it will probably drop to 3/10.

I was talking about the whole year overall, that's why I said RELEASED/WILL RELEASE. As in both past and upcoming.
