Forums - PC Discussion - Ad Blockers in web browsers, a solution or a problem?

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/20/technology/personaltech/ad-blockers-and-the-nuisance-at-the-heart-of-the-modern-web.html?_r=0

Article about how ads help make things happen and stay free while on the other hand ads can be intrusive and a nuisance for people browsing the internet.

Ponders on the idea that maybe ad-blockers will push for more transparent tactics behind ads and more simple ads that bother less people.

What is your opinion on web browser ad-blockers that allow your web browsing experience to be smoother but cut away profits for websites?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

The only reason I have a ad blocker is because of this site.

The amount of spam on here is so beyond annoying that cause crashes that I was left with no choice.

Prior this site's ads getting out of control, ads did not bother me on other sites as they were toned down and were not casing my browser to crash.

I wouldn't use an Ad Blocker if sites didn't try to force a million ads down your throat with a 5 minute visit. They only have themselves to blame for the rise of Ad Blockers. I will say some sites have toned down their ads quite a bit though.

the primary reason i use ad blocker is because it blocks video ads. image/gif ads don't bug me all that much (although sites do look much cleaner without them), but the ability to block time-wasting ads on videos is a game changer.

This sight has annoying ads and I hate ads that play automatically and slow down the site.

With my old laptop I quite literally could not handle the internet with ads. The lag was unbearable, and the clutter was awful on my 720p display. Not fun. Adblock was on %100 of the time. Now, with my desktop, I almost never use adblock, though I still do with my Atom tablet for obvious reasons.

Ultimately, it costs money to run a website, and said money has to come from somewhere. I'd rather deal with ads than have to pay a fee to visit the sites I frequent. In my view, the only difference between adbock and piracy is the fact that one is legal while the other is not.

I have Adobe flash disabled as Firefox can't handle this site otherwise.

I use AdBlocker simply because I don't want to watch the ads all the fucking time.

Like someone else said, I wouldn't mind if it was just a single or few ads here and there but they try to fucking force so many of them on you that I just don't care.

I only use adblocker when visiting porn sites and manga/anime sites. These website tend to use low quality and intrusive ads (some viruses as well).

Vgchartz is pushing the envelope a bit with a number of intrusive ad campaigns in the last few months, but I'm happy to keep adblock off when visiting here.
