Either Mega Man 2 or Mega Man X would be a good start.

I wouldn't recommend 1 if it's his first MM game, as that one is pretty hard for beginners.

Yeah I would suggest Mega Man 2.

Probably the most classic Mega Man game
Great music
Flawless controller
Not too many mechanics that are introduced later on in the series
Not too hard
