Forums - Sales Discussion - Should Media Create and/or Famitsu track U.S. sales?

So, do you guys think it'd be nice if a group like MC started tracking U.S. sales and publishing them openly? I'm pretty sure I know the answer considering we're on a site about sales, but I'd like to hear some opinions on the whole situation and what kind of alternatives to NPD's secretive monopoly on game sales there could potentially be.

In a world where everything is free, that would be cool.

In the real world, like the one we live in, NPD pays a shitton of money to distributors to get their data.

If you don't like them, you can also try GfK, which is a much bigger organisation than NPD, so there is no monopoly per se They will also charge you an arm and a leg for their US data, though.

Whatever happened to VGChartz Pro? Database for businesses.

If retail/dev/publishing industries knew they could get the info for free, from an open publication I reckon they would be willing to participate. NPD would have to convince the retailers that there is more value in NPDs data set and analysis than what they can get for free from Media Create.

They should do so in europe. Would be nice to have one tracker for the entire continent/union/eurozone (pick one) instead of having to wait and rely on rare PR sales numbers

wishfull thinking....

I wish they would. It would be nice to have more sales info weekly, and more than one tracker as well.

No, NPD is doing this.
They should do Europe numbers, I want to see them!

Yes please... Though I am for the most part alright with just getting NPD numbers through leaks.
