Uh, actually, yeah, they can afford it. They can afford the hell out of it. What is he going to do, go back and mess the game up on purpose? It's more like Kamiya and Platinum can't afford to piss off the people who pay his studio to make games. Burning bridges with Microsoft is an absolutely brainless thing to do.

The same could be said the other way around too. If he's bitching about a legit problem then MS should fit and try to make him happy. If it's all hot air then MS should shrug it off.
