Shadow of the Colossus... Not really enjoying it?

Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shadow of the Colossus... Not really enjoying it?

If the first one didn't instill you with a sense of wonder the likes of which you haven't felt since first booting up Ocarina of Time, give up. It's just not for you.

The third colossi is generally a pretty cool fight, and things change a little bit after it with the colossi (there is more variety of the kind of battke you'll have).

But the game is that, explore the map, fight the colossi and keep going.
It's an puzzle game with a deep emotinal tone, if the deeper part of the game doesn't get into you and you are just climbing bosses to kill them 'cause whatever, then you might not enjoy it to it's fullest.

Not everyone like this kind of game, so don't worry if you don't.
But it does a pretty good job in the gaming part too, the fights are puzzles and I find them very nice, the music is great, the atmosphere too, it has a lot of cool giant enemies, so I'll say try to beat it even if the deeper portion doesn't actually ring a bell inside you.

If it is the controls and sparse environments I understand, but the first boss should either hook you or not. If you still are not interested after the 2 or 3 boss just stop playing.

ICO you will know you hate or like within the first 30 minutes.

I hear ya, I have played many Sony games based on hype. Even the ones I like are over rated.

SotC is an interesting game, but it gets tedious rather quickly. This is the kinda game I played while listening to podcasts.

Thank you! I tried to love Shadow and Ico but found them boring as hell. The game for me was wander through a completely barren and dead world, devoid of color and substance, to kill giant QTE battles that go on for far too long, with the most annoying controls I have ever used.

I can understand the love people have for the game, and when they rereleased it, I was hoping for better presentation and controls, but all I got was shinier graphics.

Don't get me started on super escort quest, I mean Ico.

I couldn't get into it due to the controls and camera. It was one of my first console games and I was trying to control the camera at all times like PC gamers do with their mouse. After a few tries I gave up and watched a Let's play and realized that I wanted to play it after all. I stopped fighting the camera and accepted the controls and somewhat enjoyed the game. But I still haven't gotten to the Garden cos it takes like 5 or 6 playthroughs on PS3 to build up the stamina cos they removed the resting places in PS3 version.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I played the game in the time I came out. It was ahead of its time and in terms of scale combat it still is.

QTE battles? Are you serious?

Yes, hold a direction for a few seconds, press X, yes, QTE.

My first time playing the game felt awkward. Fiddle around 30 minutes and stopped. Went back to it a couple weeks later. Gave the controls my patients, now I love this game. It makes my top 5 favorites.
