You would have a better argument if you have said that it's pointless to make monster hunter on console because the fanbase are on handheld.  If their vision is on handheld, 3DS is the logical reason right now but if they plan to make the game on console, ps4 is the logical reason in this case.  Still, I don't understand why they don't consider a ps4/Wii U multiplatform release.

Like I said, it sells itself.  Monster Hunter 4 would have sold what it sold on the PS Vita, PS3, PS4, or Wii U.  Same with Dragon Quest.  It will sell its 3 million on whatever platform.  That is just one argument.  The second is as you say; Horii wants it on a console, which leaves PS3, PS4, Wii U and Xbox One.  Xbox One is out of the question barring a Square Enix buying offer for the title.  Wii U isn't a choice considering Nintendo is bringing the axe to it (3DS as well considering the third party titles PS Vita vs 3DS in Japan in the immediate future and Nintendo's own efforts).  Which leaves PS3 or PS4.  Nintendo's future platform is a wild card and I'm sure Horii wants the game out sooner than later.

Look at Monster Hunter Tri, it did a little over a million in Japan so no the series will not automatically sell over 3 million regardless of the device it's on. Same goes for Dragon Quest.

I wouldn't call Bravely Default (one terrible game) and some DQ ports support "like few other third parties". It's actually quite terrible if you realize how big the company is, especially in Japan, where the 3DS dominates.

Ok. Since you have no idea, here goes the list of games Square-Enix either developed or published for the 3DS:

Bust-a-Move Universe
Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest 3: Daikaizoku to Shippodan
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D
Heroes of Ruin
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
Dragon Quest VII
Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call
Final Fantasy Explorers
Theatrhythm Dragon Quest
Bravely Second: End Layer
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

It sold over a million on a dead console in Japan...  Plus I'm sure the fanbase was expecting at least a PSP version.  If Square (Or Capcom) were to say "PS4 only" it will sell 3 million on PS4 because there's no other option for the title.  They can't expect a 3DS/Vita title.  Same with Monster Hunter, if Capcom were to say Monster Hunter 5 for PS4 only (Which is looking likely) it will sell 3 million on PS4.

I think no one will be able to claim that third parties aren't biased against Nintendo if it is on PS4.

Because there's simply no way that a PS4 DQ game will make as much profit on the 3DS. I'm sure people will try to bring "The West" argument into this debate, but they're ignoring the fact that DQ has never been big in the West and MH4U on the 3DS is the fastest selling MH game in the West to date. So it's not like third party games in the West are doomed to fail on the 3DS...

And if it's on the Wii U then? It'd still make more money on the 3DS, Tbut bias is obviously not the reason.

Then I'd be wrong, but I doubt I will be wrong. :p

Wii U exclusive would be even dumber than PS4 exclusive though, unless you mean multiplat.

I meant if it was multiplat (though honestly I doubt it). And it was really just to illustrate that there are other reasons than just "bias" that decides which platform they release it on. It'll still do great on the PS4, and you also have to consider, a home console game doesn't have to do as much in raw numbers to make as much money. 60$ vs 40$. So a PS4 release "only" needs to sell 2/3 of what a 3DS release needs to make the same amount of money.

Then there is the fact that the creator wants to make a home console game, which also factors in.

Then there is of course, the west. Now yes, I reckon it'd do well enough in the west on the 3DS, but I also think it'll do better in the west on the PS4 than it could've done on the 3DS.

Last but not least, SE wants to increase userbase for the PS4, because it is still a young console, and they are gonna release tons of other games on it in the future. DQ XI will help FF VII:RE, KH3, FFXV (unless that releases before DQXI) and every other game they'll release on the console as well.

Judging by how it's written, it's highly probably that it'll be DQ11.
4 more days and we'll know.

The moment I read Samus Aran's post I knew this thread was going to be a crapshoot.

That's not really how it works. Publishers get a % of the sales. But you also have to factor in the fact that handheld games don't even come close to costing the same as AAA console games to develop. Which means they have to actually sell more copies of their console game to break even compared to handheld titles.

stop trolling.  How in the hell is the wii a dead console in Japan in 2009?  Bottom line about monster hunter is it will only sell 3 million on a portable console.  There is no evidence that a home console version will sell anywhere close to that.  It is popular because it is played with friends on wi-fi.  The portable version will sell more even if it comes out afterwards as a port.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Wii was not dead in 2009 when MH Tri released. It was also announced 2 years before release that it would be a Wii exclusive so nobody should have been expecting it to be on PSP.

Pretty poor list. Ports, remakes, spin-offs.

Where are the mainline FF, DQ and KH games? We're talking about an 18 million unit userbase here in Japan.
