Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dragon Quest 11 to be announced on july 28?

I think it will be PS3 and PS4. Possibly NX too, but even if they are going that route, they can't announce the NX version yet (I wouldn't think so anyway).

stop trolling.  How in the hell is the wii a dead console in Japan in 2009?  Bottom line about monster hunter is it will only sell 3 million on a portable console.  There is no evidence that a home console version will sell anywhere close to that.  It is popular because it is played with friends on wi-fi.  The portable version will sell more even if it comes out afterwards as a port.

Selling slightly above the PS3 isn't dead?  Or was the PS3 selling gangbusters in Japan in 2009?  Monster Hunter will sell 3 million on whatever platform it lands on if that's the only platform it will have.  Same with Dragon Quest.  You're also assuming there will be a portable port for either franchises from now on.

Who said selling slightly above PS3 is dead, much less even bad.  What does that make the PS4 then?  Wii sold 2 million that year in Japan, PS4 might get 1.5 million if it's lucky this year.  You gotta be kidding me here.  So it will sell 3 million on any console it goes to even though it didn't even come close before on any other home console and it's popularity in japan was based on it being wi-fi and playing with your friends and also wii doesn't count.  MH became popular on PSP because it was portable, and that continued onto 3DS naturally.  It was popular on Wii but not a mega franchise.  The game on Wii U sold a tiny fraction of the 3DS.  The PS2 one didn't sell that great either.  MH will sell 3 million on 3DS or vita, but on Wii U or PS4 you're looking at around a million maybe 1.5.

We haven't seen a real DQ on a home console in 11 years (probably gonna be 12 or 13 before it comes out), the home console market has really shrunk since then.  Most games that sold a million in the PS2 era don't anymore, actually million sellers on home consoles are a rarity now.  DQ will be one of them no doubt, but we have yet to see if it can get to 3 million anymore.

People in this forum?  PS3 didn't sell too well in Japan even totallity now.  PS4 is selling bad in Japan as well.  The difference is that the japanese publishers are trying their best to get sales up.  Will it work?  Who knows.  PS4 is also destroying it sales wise in the rest of the world.  It's a valid reason for Dragon Quest to go on the PS4 to get sales world wide (Plus Horii wants it on a console).  Considering the last few NIntendo titles haven't left Japan (Though I think whatever deal Square and Nintendo had involves NIntendo translating and publishing titles outside of Japan) PS4's the best option for global sales.

Monster Hunter sold best on PSP because the fanbase knew there will be a PSP port.  Even knowing this, Monster Hunter Tri sold over a million in Japan, again, on a dead console.  That was when the portable market was healthy.  We're here now, the portable market isn't healthy, it's quite dead (Yes, they're both dead).  There is no handheld port for Monster Hunter 5 coming.  If Nintendo's handheld turns into a super succes (Possible), then Monster Hunter 6 will (Unless Capcom plans to wait 4 years to release the game).  Therefore Monster Hunter will sell 3 million on whatever it's released on.  Same thing with Dragon Quest.  New mainline titles sold 3 million on whatever console it was released on since 1.  The games sell themselves.

Console market "Shrunk" because it's going back to what it used to be; Sony dominating.  The PS4 is on track to sell more than what the PSX sold and might sell what the PS2 sold (Globally).  Games that sold millions in the PS2 era sell more now.  Metal Gear Solid 4 outsold 3, Resident Evil 5 outsold 4.  Resident Evil 6 outsold 5 almost significantly.  Million sellers on home consoles are rarity?  With the Witcher selling 2 million on PS4 alone?  But if you're talking about Japanese numbers, we don't have the data yet for mainline series yet.  Final Fantasy 15 isn't releasing anytime soon (Nor Kingdom Hearts).  Resident Evil 7 hasn't been announced.  Metal Gear is the only title releasing soon that's "big" in Japan, but even then no mainline title sold a million in Japan outside of possibly the first.  What we do have is Dragon Quest Heroes which sold 700k between the PS3 and PS4 if not more.  A spinoff title, what do you think the mainline will do?  Also; PS3 sales will shift to the PS4 just as much as PSP sales of games(God Eater, etc) have shifted to Vita.

You dont' make any sense at all.  I'm not gonna respond anymore because you are all over the place in what you say.  You said MH will sell 3 million no matter what it is released on, then you add all kinds of caveats after the fact to move the goalposts.  You say the wii was a dead console in 2009 to explain why MH sold 1 million instead of 3 (not even close in sales, and not even close to dead).  Obviously i'm talking about Japan only and your last paragraph is meaningless.  Million sellers are a rarity on home consoles in Japan that's a fact.   You don't want me to list all the titles that used to sell a million that don't anymore, that actually sell a tiny fraction of what they used to because there are a lot of them.   Your list of games that sell better is the list that is extremely short.  That's how we go from like 30 million sellers on the PS1 to 2 on the PS3.  N64 had 11 of them with half the userbase of the PS3 and that was the same generation the PS1 had 30.
