Forums - Gaming Discussion - Last 24 hs of Shenmue kickstarter. Near World Record

I didnt play Shenmue or Shenmue II. I didnt even know the game. But for what I saw in youtube clips, creating an open world with weather, shops, minigames and all the other things in those years is amazing. I mean, I was playing Quake and Unreal in 1999, didnt know any open world game. And the best story I played was half life. The guy deserves the money to make a great game.

I also had a lot of fun playing Hang on, Out Run and Space Harrier (what a game, incredible creative and 360 degrees of movement) in arcades. So, i think he deserves at least 29 for his proyect. I dont know how its going to be, but anyway, I love gaming and the great creators of worlds and stories.

So, anyone who wants to join this journey, back it before it ends.

It doesn't look as well run as some others I've seen.  Like not much there to keep the hype going.  For example, Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a very, very well run Kickstarter.  If the Shenmue 3 one had had that level of effort and planning it probably could have smashed the record.

To be clear it wasn't badly run. Just could have been better. On the other hand, Kingdom Come had the advantage of being at least s little ways into serious development.

I am under the impression that there are people who really want to play this game.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I hope for this game's sake that Sony or another company has a lot of money invested in it because you can't make a good open world game with such a small budget.

Yep. I expected more and faster from this project, but it's not been run particularly well. Bloodstained felt somewhat disorganized (perhaps just not prepared for the amount of support it got), but kept things interesting to the very end. The S3 kickstarter has been unclear from the very start, seemingly expecting far more initial support than it got. Who is really funding Shenmue 3? Is the initial 2m really enough? Oh, not really? We need 10m now for "the real deal?" But 5m would be okay too? And instead of interesting stretch goals we got 2-3 updates a day with new $1000+ trinkets to buy.

Bleh. Still glad this project is a real thing, and even more so it's about over.

I think the announcement of sony's financial involvement after the initial goals were met confused consumers and potential backers, irrevocably slowing shenmue 3's momentum.

Thank thé stupid haters for that, instead of Being happy for shenmue's return, they tried to destroy thé hype

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Guess what!! There's a series out there called Yakuza (by Sega) and it's said to be the spiritual successor of Shenmue. And you know what... it plays like it exactly only on a bigger scale.

I love seeing fans of Shenmue harp about the game when there's Yakuza 3, 4, and soon 5.

Anyway about the kickstarter. I can't help but feel the people who supported the kickstarter were cheated because everyone initially thought Sony would pick up the slack if the kickstarter reached its goal. What a kick to the nuts in my opinion.
