Forums - Gaming Discussion - Project H.A.M.M.E.R untold story, the fall of Nintendo Software Technology and racism within Nintendo

I've said it many times. The Japanese branch rules with an iron fist. All decisions are made from Japan with little to no input from Western teams or management.

"The talent which created some of the studio's most impressive games has long since departed, many leaving due to their experience with Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and its painful development."

Which talent? You mean the talent which created everybody's favorite game, Metroid Prime: Hunters?

1080 and Wave Race were fairly well received for their genres.

That people are already assuming defensive positions to combat what this video is talking about is expected but, really, it would nice if they watched the video first so that they aren't totally off-base.

Did I miss something in the video that isn't covered in the posted article?

The funny thing here is that the concept seemed to be to create a game for the Wii that would appeal to a western audience--then they put Japanese executives in charge who reportedly ignored ideas and suggestions from non-Japanese team members and shifted focus to where they wanted it to go.

That's awesome.  It's like sending a cook from Taco Bell down to Mexico to teach them now to make Mexican food.

It's that people are commenting that it was a bad game that should have been cancelled when that's not the point at all.  The video is talking about the events that resulted in the project turning sour in the first place.  Those interviewed said it wasn't a very good game but they also said they weren't allowed to make the game they wanted.  The direction turned into a struggle between the western staff and Japanese management and, obviously, management had the final say.

I don't like when developers aren't given the chance to implement their vision of what they want their game to be. That's not to say that the devs are always right or the never need any outside input, but I believe that the people closest to the development of a project should have the most input.

Finally the nintendo higher up's get exposed for what they are conservative and racist. To the hordes of nintendo fans who are blind this is the real reason that nintendo doesn't progress. They are not looking for innovation and integration by working closely with western developers.

Terrible.
No wonder we wont get a new Wave Race or 1080.

Wave Racer was one of the best N64 games. That shizzle was fun as hell

If anyone wants a background
NST made Metroid Prime Hunters, Wave Race GCN, 1080, and Mario vs Donkey Kong(which is sadly the only games they currently make).

Now people are quick to bash NST's talent as a gamemaker to justify Nintendo's jerk behaviour. I had a blast with Ridge Racer 64, Pokémon Puzzle League and Wave Race: Blue Storm. I would've loved to see this game as its creators intended it to be. Just like Dinosaur Planet without the Star Fox brand slapped onto it. Nintendo is a bully company.

I rather had had this game than that horrendous Wii Music crap.
