Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo thinks Sony and Microsoft will steal their next console idea.

What do you mean? Didnt they get copied with motion controls after the Wii?

Of course its a legitimate concern.

Sony's strategy has always been one to copy the competition though. Its a very legitimate strategy wich cuts on development costs.

I swear, sometimes people hate on Nintendo just for the sake of it.

care to explain how did the PS4 copy the WiiU and XB1?

This infographics tries to prove that Sony steal from everyone:

Sorry about the trolling but there is copying between all competitors.

- sony steals but they make it often times better like building rumble pack inside the controller, there are literary games on the N64 which require you to put in the memory card to load and save your game and then switching back the rumble expansion if you want to have it (Quake 2). Not to mention that you need battries which is even more stupid.

The PS1 Dualshock came also with two analog sticks instead one.

- the triggers were invented by sega not microsoft

- the home button was invented by Sony with the PSP

Can you tell the source? It's funny to read tbh.

They'd better make the NX unique then.

Whatever it is, we likely won't see a patent application either untill next June.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Sony stole some of the wii u's attention by bringing out off-tv ps4 to vita play. Sony also copied the thumb sized analogue joysticks from the n64. They even copied the wii motes. History shows Nintendo's right to be nervous.

As far as I know, the D-pad of every game controller from past to present was a (Nintendo) Gunpei Yokoi's idea.

He was also father of Gameboy, which became one of the most popular gaming system in the world

Without him, and Nintendo, video game industry will change forever

I remember struggling with the SideWinder Freestyle Pro gyro controls in the late '90s

The worst thing was that "D-pad", it always went diagonal

Simple, the Vita works like a Gamepad for the PS4.

Two people/companies can have the same idea independantly from each other though. But Nintendo was first in this regard.

I know that everyone is copying/stealing from each other. The OP asked why Nintendo had this mindset. Everyone that gets into this business has to have that mindset.

Btw there is a misconception that Nintendo innovated motion controls. Nope. It's was Philips who has the patent and Nintendo is paying them money after being ordered by court. Same goes for 3D technology which was stolen from a former Sony employee. Nintendo claimed the same before Wii U. Yes. If someone has an idea that doesn't have any exclusive patent (or just slightly different idea which doesn't needs patent) then competitors are bound to copy. This is how all industry are going. As for the NX they are either afraid or its not much different from the rest. And this is why they are making such comment.
