The production value of greece's indutry, is sadly currently very low. Similarily to Cuba, Greece has a few speciality products to export, and otherwise relies on tourism and a weakish tertiary sector. Cuba's productivity is nothing to be proud of.

In the case of default, the new government would have great difficulty obtaining new loans, and would have a meager revenue, thus making it impossible to promote the creation of new sectors, as would be necessary.

Equally, banks will run out of liquidities, following the usual mistrust of new currencies, making it more difficult for new entrepreneurs to find financement.

Even tourism could be temporarily hurt by the instability.

In such a situation, forcibly weekening the drachme would just create hyperinflation, further reducing buying power of the populace.

I do not see how greece could fare off much better than, let's say, mexico, after defaulting.

I know barely anything about Greece. It just reminds me of Greek, which I know is the language most of the New Testament was written in. And I want to learn the languages because it interests me. That's it.

The New Testament is written in very poor koinè, most likely because it was their second language. A lot of the sentences come across as semitic which suggests that they spoke Aramaic in their daily life.

From a literary point of view the New Testament is garbage and not worth reading. Read the Illiad instead, it's in classical Attic with a dactylic hexameter.

The greeks and their politicians will eventually cave in in the final final final deadline the EU will come up at the last minute. There will be no default, only the country steadily but surely lowering itself back to Eastern Europe/Turkey standards of living come the next 15 or 20 years. Watch and see.

Also relevant -

lol @ Greece's opinions on most and least trustworthy.

That almost makes me ashamed for being Greek.

As for Germany, I guess success is confused with arrogance these days.

The British and French are still not over the Napoleonic Wars it seems.

Yep greece's buying power is probably gonna be less than half of what it currently is, once it defaults.
It would be like everything in your country suddenly jumping up to x2 in price, but you still earn the same as you did before.

Alot more people are going to be poor, in greece after this.

Who does Poland trust?

I just wanted to come here and say that I wish Greece a swift recovery and that no matter what happens I will always thank Greece for giving us democracy, western philosophy, advances in science and mathematics, culture, etc. but above everything Septicflesh, Rotting Christ, and Astarte.
