Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Concept: How the Wii U Gamepad should had looked

Do you like the Concept?

Yes, the gamepad should look like this 29 21.64%

no, the gamepad is perfect 57 42.54%

no, they should use a com... 48 35.82%

Total:134

While I agree that the gamepad looks bulky, Its surprisingly light and comfortable too use. I like the gamepad the way it is.

We all know that batarang design would have sold like hotcakes though!

I am constantly amazed that I can hold the gamepad for very long times with only one finger (long finger + the palm). I like surfing with it and I never drop it even If I fall into a slumber.
Maybe the screen is to big but is sufficient for browsing and off-TV.
I like very much that the size of the gamepad lets me rest my elbows on the couch. Normal controllers forces the hands together and forces the elbows and arms to uncomfortable positions (I am a big guy).

It'll become failure anyway. The Gamepad is not the only problem. And the worst thing is they can't blame tablet for Wii U failure lol.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Just calling what should be the standard controller the "pro controller" clearly demonstrates the Nintendo mindset that it's target audience is the casual gamer.

OT Not sure about that concept design. For it to make sense the screen would have to be a lot smaller than the current GP screen for this pro controller based design to make ergonomic sense. And once a screen gets too small then it becomes functionally compromised. I think Nintendo wanted a touchscreen controller, they figured out the ideal size (screen capacity vs cost vs ergonomics) and then built a controller around their optimised screen size. For all one can argue that the gamepad was a negative factor for Wii U and contributed to its lack of success, design-wise it's probably the best you could get having a touchscreen, with buttons and thumbsticks, that does not look like a PSVita.

That's what I predict the NX controller will look like. And I don't think any of the games that use the gamepad would be worse off with a smaller, Vita-sized touch screen.

EDIT:  This is pretty much exactly how I think the NX controller will look like, only with the analog sticks at the top, and being actual analog sticks.

IDK the differences in coloring make me think it was rushed.

I know what you mean, its the main reason I want this controller... er controllers??

More options would be better. But your one looks really good.

And yes I agree, the Gamepad is too much and a more standard controller with screen (or a Vita/DS4 combo) would have been much better.

it's probably in part because it's what i'm used to but this form is much more appealing to me,.. specifically on the right hand side having the buttons be above the analog not below.  i don't like that on the wiiU.  on the left side i could go either way but i'm pretty happy with the playstation layout compared to the xbox layout.

regardless,. ergonomics is really important if you are going to game for a long period of time and this looks soo much more comfortable then what i've played on wiiU.

lastly, a screen the size of a vita screen is plenty.  the wiiU's screen is larger than it really needs to be.

Honestly i think something like that would sell pretty well if they made it, and definitely better than the Xbox One pro controller at around $150.

I do no like those silly "flipper" things for the L2/R2 buttons, but otherwise, sure, it could have stood to be sleeker. However, keep in mind that it's packing a lot of different tech, which was likely ultimately the cause for it's size.
