Yeah..... i get where he is coming from. But for me, it was the gamepad itself which sold the Wii U for me. I think they should get away from that "Wii" brand, and try something completely new, and try to target a wide audience - like they can keep their mario/party/"Children" type games, but still having that 3rd party support ( where the hardcore audience can go to )

This is what worries me a little bit.
"So what I think is unique about Nintendo is we’re constantly trying to do unique and different things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they’re not as big of a hit as we would like to hope. After Wii U, we’re hoping that next time it will be a very big hit."
So they are trying "something new" again? Oh my.. just do what Sony do: nothing. PS4 is "just" a stronger PS1 and that's OK because that's what gamers want.

Yeah, and that's one of the million issues with the console.
But even the option to use those controllers didn't save the Wii U, because of the other issues.
Add in there unexciting software.

Doing the same stuff that Sony does won't put them back on top. Just because you imitate someone doesn't mean you will get the same results as them.
"Something new" is good and I hope they embrace it.

Only if what you have is bad.
Once you find something good, that works and consumers want... you stick to it, improve on it, and make it become associated with you.
Nintendo found the "good" with their wii nunchucks... wii sold like hotcakes.
Instead of makeing a new and better wii (wii 2), they just changed everything for no reason.

I will never understand why nintendo decided to kill the wiimotes it still baffles me today. They had something succesful that people liked and they threw it under the bus.

By traditional, I actually meant something along the lines of the original Wii. Motion controls was their space and they can return to it again, succeed where others failed with a reasonably priced console.
Glad to see some of you understood what I exactly meant with my initial post.
OT:
The problem Miyamoto is talking about, which is definitely not the Wii U biggest issue but w/e, is gonna hit their QoL sleeping sensors by the time they release them to the market. Smartphones can do just that and do it better with a simple .99 dollar App, not a dedicated hardware.
I wonder if those sensors are still in the pipeline because we haven't heard much about them so far.
