Nintendo pumps out so many 1st party games on their handheld that it hurts their Wii U development, where as Sony clearly supports the ps4 MUCH MUCH more than the Vita. Sales for the 3ds are MUCH higher than the Vita and ps4 sales are higher than the Wii U's.

Sony barely provides something good for ps4.

Whatever they do, it's a lot more for the ps4 than the Vita. And Sony's main way of supporting the ps4 is securing 3rd party developers, something they don't do the same for on the Vita.

Hmm, I guess it has always been that way? Their handheld brand has been strong since the gameboy, and they always have solid games. While the 3DS isn't having DS sales, it's still doing well, with good games, price, and... well, it's got Monster Hunter. It wins Japan x )

what war? lol

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

Because handhelds are dying and nintendo has their IPs and fanbase which gurentees them some sales tough not as much too

Come again?

JK, Seriously though. It's because Nintendo has pretty much been left to it's own devices (no pun intended) in the handheld market. Sure, Sony put out the Vita, but how much support or marketing has it gotten?

Nintendo has put more focus on the 3DS than the Wii U has ever gotten.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Various reasons, the games on the handhelds are design specifically for the market so they have good pick up and play factors, consistent brands like Pokemon, marketing and understanding of the market.

War? Do they have competition? Nope. They are king in this regard. PSP did resistance and wasn't good enough.

How about Vita ? A handheld with better hardware, more interesting app & features

Only twice have the most powerful home consoles been in the lead of the gaming market. The 4th generation with the SENS, and the 8th generation with the PS4 (even though the generation hasn't been finished yet, it seems like it will stay in the lead). This has never happened with handhelds as more adcanced hardware is more expensive and harder to develop for, so more games go on the cheaper 3D or DS or GBA or Game Boy, making it sell a lot better than the competition. The only other handheld game console to get close to beating Nintendo (though not THAT close) was the PSP.

IDK why people keep on bringing up mobile. 1. 3DS sales have not been hurt THAT hard by mobile phones, and 2. Mobile Phones ARE NOT gaming consoles. They are phones, they sell better because of that.

One word: Pokemon. And Mario and Monster Hunter and Zelda and Yo-Kai Watch and Dragon Quest and Animal Crossing.

Come on, the original gameboy ran on three shades of puke green and beat a handheld with full color.  Of course the gamegear also ran through batteries like some sort of analogy of a thing/person that goes through a bunch of stuff really quick that I'm too tired to come up with, but still.
