Then the ability to biologically reproduce must not be all that important after all.

We've been over this, the argument is conceptual. So anyone conceptually able to conceive children would be entitled to marriage regardless of individual potency. Two homosexuals can't conceive a child naturally therefore they are excluded.

What good is a concept that has no basis in reality?

It does have a basis in reality. Nature dictates that two persons of the same sex can't reproduce. It's not that hard to understand.

In reality, an elderly couple or a couple where one or both are infertile cannot biologically reproduce. Therefore the concept that they can has no practical basis.

Men can always concecieve. Women cannot beyond a certain age for health reasons. To ensure a genetically healthy child as possible. Just one of nature's safeguard. Has nothing to do with form. The argument is centered on basic form between biological male and female. Age is an external factor and subject to a whole other debate about child-marriages, etc.

You sure as hell can't expect this to happen in Israel where over 90% opposes gay marriage, lol.

Uh, technically they can't, I think you mean "impregnate", unless you're suggesting that men can get pregnant. ;)

A couple where the woman was passed menopause or a younger couple with one of the many naturally occurring conditions that can cause infertility have no more practical reproductive capability than a gay couple. If the "basic form" between male and female is based on biological reproduction, then infertile straight couples and elderly straight couples do not qualify and shouldn't be allowed to marry. If they do qualify, then that means that the capacity for biological reproduction is not required for marriage.

Age is external and age affects fertility. Other external factors affect fertility as well. Form is the most basic conceptual basis for marriage. It merely states that marriage is between a man and a woman. On a basic conceptual level, homosexuals (same-sex couples) can't can't conceive regardless of their age or other external factors therefore they can't marry. It's the most easy definition of marriage that everyone can agree on. All other factors are subject to cultural considerations that may or may not be socially constructed. Sex and basic reproduction are not social constructs. The purpose is to establish and uphold a universal and cross-cultural definition of marriage.

Reproduction does not necessarily have anything to do with marriage. Having one without the other is commonplace.

Marriage is the official recognition of a committed relationship between two people.
