Age is external and age affects fertility. Other external factors affect fertility as well. Form is the most basic conceptual basis for marriage. It merely states that marriage is between a man and a woman. On a basic conceptual level, homosexuals (same-sex couples) can't can't conceive regardless of their age or other external factors therefore they can't marry. It's the most easy definition of marriage that everyone can agree on. All other factors are subject to cultural considerations that may or may not be socially constructed.
