Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Witcher 3 Is Not Fun To Play (But The Quests Are Godly)

You should definitely quit playing it and find something more to your liking...maybe replay Bloodborne again?

From what I've heard, the Witcher has always had boring gameplay, I think the appeal is the world, how open it, what too do in it, how well written it is.

The gameplay isnt boring at all. The game controlls a little bit heavier than usual, you kinda feel the coggs of the inner works of the game rolling when youre commanding Geralt to do some stuf, but its far from boring. Its actualy quite fun, with some minor frustration like Geralt refusing to draw his sword every once in awhile in the face of danger and things like that, but quite fun to play nonetheless. It does take some getting used to tough.

I feel the same way. Like I said in the other thread, I'll give it a few more hours before giving up. It may take some time to get a feel for things.

I just finished Witcher 2 on PC, and i have no interest in playing Witcher 3 until it is like 5 dollars. I appreciate your input, tc. If the combat is anything like TW2, then I don't really want to play it. It was still a decent game, but it pales in comparison, IMO, to the Souls games.

The Souls games (and Bloodborne) have such fluid, challenging, and satisfying combat with so many endless combinations of attack that they have seriously ruined most other games for me. Also---and I am only mentioning this because you mentioned BB---the souls games have a very minimalist approach with dialogue yet they still deliver a story through exploration and occasional conversation; whereas in the Witcher 2, I read so much crap about people from so many places, but in the end, I was so confused and lost with many topics and didn't feel a great connection to the vast majority of them. And I have nothing against dialogue (jrpgs are my favorite genre), but damn, my favorite ones (FF6-9, CT, Suikoden 1/2, Nocturne, etc.) are concise yet effective at delivering a nice plot. I wish every game was like that.

I'm afraid I will feel like this when I finish bloodborne. I love/hate it soo much.

will give Witcher a try in the future.

Witcher is more about story than gameplay. I played through Witcher 1, 2 and I just started 3. Its more like Fable minus the fun and wit.

From Software's games are something completely different.

Well if it's more boring than fable count me out. I did love kicking chickens though.

Having finished the excellent Bloodborne, I thought The Witcher would scratch an itch but instead it has me scratching my head. I'm not very far into the game, hell, I haven't even defeated the Griffon yet, but there's the thing, I keep turning it off after half an hour of play. It's just so damned 'boring' and 'awkward'. It's almost as if the devs considered every possible way of making it control badly and then added them in. I dislike controlling a character who slowly increases in speed and then slowly decreases in speed, it makes those simple tasks of grabbing loot or interacting that much more frustrating. The horse isn't fun to ride either. I just feel as if this world needs exploring but every time I look out at that vista I quit. It's a weird feeling really. I just know that it's not going to be fun to walk, ride, run, gallop, fight and forage, so what is the point in continuing to explore? And then you have the menu system which is far too busy and conplex for it's own good. I get abolutely no satisfaction from looking through the menus. I'm impressed with the graphics but just like the menu and and controls, clearly the devs needed to find a way of spoiling that too by cranking up the colour to sickening levels.

Disappointed.

The combat in this series is godawful. Gameplay is usually not the forte of Western developers. I've been saying it for some time, western devs need to hire Japanese to do the gameplay.

Just by watching videos I got bored, nothing seems to excite me about the game, the gameplay, the medieval setting, same old tiring quests, Geralds voice and the way he delivers his lines. Barely managed through W2.

It's sad but the best WRPG actually came from Japan, Dragon's Dogma.

Are you talking gaming in general?

Yeah.

Dragon's Dogma blew everything away as far as WRPG goes, Mass Effect was great until they took out the rpg elements.

I'm getting this weird vibe that some people believe every game with sword type combat has to somehow be akin to or exactly like a Souls game, I really hope that's not the case because that's kinda shitty tbh, it's not everyone's cuppa and neither will this game be.
