Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last of Us is a good game…nothing more, nothing less

The game is amazing and it really shows off the talent of the studio. The story is not extraordinary in any way; but the delivery is absolutely masterful. The atmosphere is incredible. The simplicity of the story amplifies the emotional delivery.

The transitions are on point and the highlight is the unfolding of Joel's struggle with survivin' and the type of love that would forsake the human race.

The controversy over the end is so intense because people can understand how he feels in the context of reality. Could you potentially damn the world to save the one you love? Would it be selfish?

The salty rivers continue to flow.

4 ≈ One

I completely agree. The game is good but I don't understand why the gaming media hyped it so much. To me it was a 9 out 10. The game play was just typical third person shooter. Also the pallet/ladder puzzles got boring quick Hand to hand combat was good though.

Okay I would like to hear some opinions on what games of recent times deserve perfect scores, outside of TLoU. A lot of you don't believe the game deserves the credit it got. So I really want to know what some of you think about other games who should have gotten the spotlight over this game.

There's a good question in its own right.

Games I've played that released within the past 5 years that I would give 4 stars on an 8-point scale (like movies):

The only ones that come to mind immediately. They moved their generes forward in a significant way.

And of course there's KNACK as well.

Your impressions are very much like mine, except i voiced them a few months after the game came out and i got voraciously attacked. But, that doesnt change them in any way.

Yeah, I remember those days; 5-6 threads per day about how it was the "game of the forever" and if you criticised it you incited a lynch mob... XD

Certainly, the majority can often be wrong, but the issues you are referring to are a lot more complicated than "I think this game is overrated" and are far beyond the scope of the discussion. That's talking about deep seeded beliefs, propaganda, and manipulation of the masses.

So just like game journalism then. ;)

Not at all.

I really loved this game. when I got connected to the characters I was hooked. I think genuinely caring for them makes a world of difference. My only complaint period is when you are sneaking around and the other characters are making all kinds of noises. Kinda a suspense killer. If I ever get some games cleaned off my plate I will get it for ps4. Never played the left behind dlc.

Different strokes for different folks! I fully respect everyone's opinion about TLOU; assuming they are open minded about it. That being said:
How many opinions does it take before a statement like "game of the year" becomes fact; (although that "fact" is perceived differently by every unique individual)? The majority. And the majority is almost never wrong.
Just because you disagree with it does not make it false for the majority. The resounding majority of reviewers and players believe TLOU is a great game

What? The majority is often wrong. It often comes down to a few geniuses that change the established wold view/leading paradigm.

- Hitler was elected democratically.

- Bush was elected twice.

- Ronald Reagan is considered a great president by the majority of the US citizens even though he's one of the worst presidents to ever disgrace the USA.

- The majority of Russians support Putin.

- The majority of Russians are homophobe.

- Most people in Islamic countries consider homosexuality a sin punishable by death.

- Most people believed the sun circled around the earth before Copernicus revolutionized our world view. He met with a lot of resistance.

- Women are considered inferior according to the Shariah law which is in effect in a lot of Islamic countries (to varying degrees of course).

- There are 5 big universal religions who claim to be the only right answer (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism). At most only one of them can be correct (and most likely all of them are incorrect) as these religions are incompatible with each other.

Can't really agree with that analogy tbh. If the majority of game reviewers and players thought very highly of a game then that game must be deserving of awards and praise. The majority of game reviewers and players are almost never wrong. I can't speak for the majority of people when it comes to politics however lmao.

TLOU is one of the greatest games of the 21st century. The amount of awards it got (in the same year as GTAV, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider etc) and the high critic and user scores show that. But like I said before I am very accepting of everyone's personal views about products I love. I won't try to change your personal opinion about TLOU.

Oh wait, I forgot, it's only evil propaganda when it suits people to call it so, the rest of the time its the word of God. ;)
