Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Exec Says Hololense Will Cost More than Xbox

@The blackheart

The glasses will not be able to have the needed hardware capabilities inside the glasses you wear on your head.
It ll have a small box (like a pc) that does that for it, externally of the glasses.

Also the power needed to do these computations will be big, too much for the xbox one, to be able to do while running a game.

So imagine your wearing these glasses and around you, you see these floating screens with video feeds on, but as soon as you turn on your xbox for gameing, you wont have enough power to do both..... = fail.

So basically your going to need a mini pc along with these glasses that handles that part, ei the floating video feeds you see in AR from your glasses.

For the Xbox games to interact with these AR glasses, you ll probably need to hook up the xbox to another "box".

Too expensive and pretty useless :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfC8RoQcez0

Wow,  did not realize the field of view was so small.   All of the other videos make is seem like the fields of view was huge.  Never trust demos.

It makes sense, unlike Morpheus or Oculus. The HoloLens is supposed to be powered by internal hardware.

The question is. Which model do we prefer?

Option 1) As cheap as possible and powered by external hardware - or - Option 2) Really expensive but independent

I don't agree at all. VR is way more exciting than AR ever will be. It is also nearly an impossibility that MS doesn't have a secret VR project hidden away. Anyhow, a PC running Oculus can be an order of magnitude more powerful than Hololens using onboard power. The difference is mobility. With small fanless processors of low heat hololens would be stuck with basically mobile phone or tablet power at best. Even a PS4 would embarrass it grunt wise.

rather wait for some official public announcement

It's going to flop as a gaming platform in that price range.

Isn't PS camera required for Morpheus..

I cant think why, you would need a camra to watch you, while you wear a VR headset.

Maybe there is a reason for it, but unless its for oddball stuff like useing hand gestures for certain games...... dont see the reason for it.

You should be able to just use a VR headset + your normal controllers, for most VR games.

exterior tracking is needed for all VR headsets to get rid of drift, internal sensors can't identify well when that happens

additionally in the case of Morpheus it afaik provides tracking for leaning etc, it's important to support those motions even in normal seated game experiences to keep a high level of immersion

I see ms releasing this for the corporate market before releasing it to a wider audience at a reduced cost.

The live demos shown showed amazing potential for engineers and the like.

Never. Hololense is not meant for productive use, no matter how much that trailer and the previews want to make it seem like it.

It may seem intuitive but engineers and graphic designers need complex and precise tools.A thing that hand gestures are not. Even the stuff that they showed, which is very far from reality, are all things that would've been done quicker with a mouse and proper user interface.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The future aint cheap. Ill leave it to the PC master race. Master race = money to blow

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I'll believe it when it comes out, until then I'll stick with speculation rather than downplay it and praise another peripheral.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see
