Forums - Gaming Discussion - What games do you consider having the best sense of scale?

God of War 3 was pretty good in this regard

I think we were talking about two different things!

Well, God of War has detailed backgrounds and all but you can't approach every area visible. Not to mention how linear it was.

Shadow of the Colossus was pretty much linear too though.

I didn't game very often after the PS2 era so don't be laughn' at my little knowledge! From what I played, and what I saw, the games that impressed me the most in this particular area are:

4) Another game I found very impressive is GTAV. The franchise gets a lot of hate due to its overratedness if you will. I too never considered myself a big fan of it despite enjoying them during the PS2 era. But for a last generation multplatform that is also open world and busy, the achievement Rockstar have made with the world of GTAV is undeniable. Though I still have to play it first as my opinion is based on observation and not much else.

So.. what are your picks? what is the game that defines "Sense of Scale" to you?

Have to agree with how you feel with GTA5 that game world was just so huge you really felt like you could get lost in it down one of the thousands of back alleys and live your life as a hobo in San Andreas... or maybe just me? :D

Warcraft and Minecraft both have the ability to make you feel tiny at times when venturing through some user generated Cities in Minecraft or some of the Massive area's in WoW, Warcraft has had scale fuckups in the past too tho, Deathwing - End boss and Antagonist of the Cataclysm expansion ended up in 2 overly huge boss fights which ended up as running around on a flying platform breaking bits of armor off a dragon you can't see properly and fighting tiny parts of his claws and wings on platforms... again where the full sized boss is never visible, was an absolutely terrible use of a massive enemy.

flying on his back... killing slimes?! why?

Are you talking about a sense of scale, or about how big the game world actually is? Because if it's just the sense of scale then God of War 3 is definitely up there.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

XCX definitely.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Castlevania symphony of the night made by Konami, in this age its Bloodborne

I would add Resistance 2 and Killzone 3 to that list. I was just blown away when that Chimera walker stepped over me in the opening level of R2, and the MAWLER fight in Killzone 3 always amazes my friends when I show them.

XCX is my main pick but I have to give a mention to Wind Waker. I know it's not the biggest Zelda, but just starting the game on Outset Island and looking out to the vast ocean and realizing that you can explore its entirety is just so overwhelming (in a good way).
