That's what I've been saying. So many people act like a game has to be revealed years ahead of release. I honestly don't understand this mentality right that MS is going to have all these exclusives coming during the holidays, but Sony has absolutely nothing. There's no way in hell Sony has nothing on the books for the rest of the year. Hell, I'm gonna be playing Godzilla and the new R&C, and I guarentee something else will pop up. |
I agree, it's simply not necessary for a game to be announced, devs let the hype die down from it's announcement, then wait for ages before showing anything. An infinitely better strategy for marketing would be to say nothing for years of the game's development, you plan on releasing within the next 6 months, so that's when you announce it and unveil the title.
You simply don't need that long to reveal a new game and market it enough to sell well, you just need to make sure it stands out, that it's a good or great game, wait until you're confident in how it will be received and bam you hit the media with it in the face and the positivity would spread.
Look at how negative things are seen for The Last Guardian, people automatically think it's never going to live up to the hype, but the opposite would happen if you announced a game a meer few months from it's release. Provided you get the game into the hands of the gaming media and you can get across to the public exactly what the game is about then there's no reason why this kind of a strategy couldn't have anything but a positive effect on the game.
Those of us who have actually paid attention to what has been announced know that Sony already has a lot of stuff that is very well suited to a huge range of gamers tastes, their exclusive line-up actually stands out very well from the 3rd party stuff and the competition, obviously it's not of interest to some, but who cares!
What Sony has is what's selling, which is why the system has been as popular as it has been.
This notion that the only important game is a big AAA release is ridiculous, what matters most is whether the games you have coming appeal to a big enough audience and clearly that's the case for PS4.
Me personally I can't wait for Ratchet & Clank, Tearaway Unfolded, Fat Princess Adventures, Deep Down, Drawn to Death, Kill Strain, all are meant to be on their way over the next 7 months, maybe Alienation, Rime, WiLD.
Persona 5 could be interesting, I've never played any games from the series, but PS4 is all about opening gamers up to a wider range of titles, it is in a very real way the PS2 of this generation.
It's clear Sony have more coming after Xmas is done too, Uncharted in the Spring, God of war should be due in March, SFV around that time too, tonnes of surprises from the 1st party AAA, whether it's this year, next year or beyond there's tonnes of stuff that appeals to the masses, which has become clear by how well the system's already been moving.
