Forums - Movies & TV - Avengers: Age of Ultron - Thoughts & Spoilers

Just saw it again, this time by myself, and I think it's a better film overall than the first, it just lacked that certain wow factor of the original. Of course it's something that couldn't have been replicated, you watch the first and the reaction is, "Oh shit, this is actually happening," whereas with the second it's more, "Oh man, this is happening, again." It's not a good or bad thing, just that it's difficult to capture that lightning twice is all.

Avengers 2: AoU was a solid entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  I would rank it as the second best movie beyond the first Avengers film.  I had some pacing issues, but after my second viewing, I can easily see the what Whedon was doing and the extra character development of Black Widow, Banner, Hawkeye in the end worked fine to further the story and preparations for the next set of MCU films.  This film should be seen on Imax or Ultrascreen for the full overload experience.  Definitely a comic fan's movie to see.  Don't let the nitpickers taint a the great film that AoU is.

Haha, nice one. No Hank Pym and Wanda and Pietro were not mutants. This isn't one of the fans. :P

Hmm, pie.

Fury, I have no idea what you're saying but my point stands that AoU is not only a good, but great movie.  It will easily do over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

Transformers and Furious 7 must be some of the greatest films of all time because of their box office success . . .

Tongue in cheek remark at the idea it was a film for comic fans. Sure it is comic characters and 'for fans' but it's not the same as having the actual creator of Ultron in it and the son and daugter of Magneto acknowledge their heritage.

But knowing recent developments at Marvel... they don't care about fans anyway.

Hmm, pie.

I actually like that they are not simply copying the main universe.

As for Wanda and Pietro not being mutants, if they do not get the rights to call them mutants they just dont get the rights. Would have been nicer the other way but as long as Marvel and Fox are not able to make an agreement thats justt how it is.

The rights thing was odd but acceptable. That is me being a fanboy, not just a fan. :P

Hmm, pie.

I was just dissappointed that Ultron never seemed really dangerous and was easily defeated.

They only had two hours and change worth of film to write Ultron out as a global threat.

Granted, I can understand long fans of Ultron being slightly upset that it wasn't the be all end all threat that a global invasion should represent. But, the same thing could be said about the Chitauri being easily defeated since their global invasion never made it past Manhattan Island with a team of six individuals beating them back in an afternoon.

Whether one considers it a weakness or good serial story telling, the MCU is all about set up and development for future chapters, and AoU is a prime example of this.

It introduced the existence of other super powered beings (vital for Civil War).

It demonstrated an increasing liability that super powered beings represent to the rest of humanity and a growing backlash and fear towards them.

It revealed that the scepter did indeed house the Infinity Mind Gem (more development for Infinity War).

It revealed Stark's vision for Earth's future defense from alien threat (one without the Avengers)

It introduced Wakanda and the source of Vibranium (leads to Black Panther).

Ultron itself simply represented the evolution of the first artificial intelligence in the MCU. It's a given that Ultron could be written back into the MCU whenever needed due to its digital lifeform origin. Ultron simply has no place in the Civil War or Infinity War and AoU needed to have a resolution considering that previous films built directly into the events that took place in its plot.

There were plenty of other things going on; almost too much for a single movie compared to the relative straightforward simplicity of The Avengers.
