Locked: Why cant we just have Religion and Atheism live in Harmony?

Forums - Politics Discussion - Why cant we just have Religion and Atheism live in Harmony?

I only have a problem with the ones who try to push their beliefs on others and the ones that throw objective thinking right out the window if it goes against their faith. The world is not black and white and you're a fool if you view it as such.

Because people on both sides are very judgmental, because people don't like it when folks have viewpoints that counter their own, and therefore; people want to convert each other.

Exactly.

You know what grinds my gear. When people use religion as a scapegoat for humanities problems. No. It's people who've caused all the problems, all throughout history people have used "ideals" to justify terrible actions. The crusades, the nazis, etc. People carried those actions out, not belief, not ideas or mentalities. Nobody wants to take responsibility, so they scapegoated then and they scapegoat now.

I don't have problems with most religious people in my personal environment. Even though I despise some traditions (Halal slaughter), complaints about the right to not eat or drink during a certain period.

But silence is golden for all I care, so most atheists and religious people don't hate eachother, especially Western Christians have seen to accept Atheism and science as legitimate knowledge. Whereas other religions would like to claim they have the right not to be educated about evolution and still denie the holocaust and disrespect the (mostly female) teachers who try to educate them. But that's luckily a small minority.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I do believe the 20th century (Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, two world wars, cold war and so forth) adequately demonstrated that we don't need religion to find sufficient reason to kill ourselves.

I don't know about you guys, but i'm living in harmony with religious people

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I've had plenty of pushy atheists looking for a fight or to "enlighten" me, so it's not only the religious who try to push their beliefs onto someone else. I think the reason why sometimes there isn't harmony is because hating is more easy than being tolerant. Being patient with people and walking away instead of fighting is something some people just won't do.

Beacuse unlike religion "we" atheists doesn't try and force our "belief" or the lack thereoff on others nor do we start wars beacuse of it.

Biggest load of bullshit I've heard in my life. I get called ignorant, stupid and so forth just because I believe in a god. Atheists have been forcing their beliefs on people just as much as religious people

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

The problem is when one doesn't accept the other.

We have freedom of choice, the problem starts when one try to push the other.

Seems pretty common to see people talking the problem is religious people trying to force non-religious people, but it's also pretty common to see a lot of disrespect from non-religious people toward the others beliefs.

Just when we all can realize we have to respect the others as we like to be respected we will achieve harmony.

There is troublesome people everywhere, don't fool yourself thinking it's a one sided thing.

Because there are many religious people who try to force their religion onto me in my real life. People can believe whatever religion they want, but if they try to push others to their belief as well they're going too far.

Yeah I hate it when people try to force a relgion onto someone like no thats not how it works :P
