Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is it worth getting a Wii U?

JinxRake said:
Thing is I haven't played a Nintendo console proper since the days of the NES. So I just want to play some Mario stuff honestly and have a console that I can play with more people when they're over.

Does it have BC with the Wii or Gamecube?

Wii yes, GC no.

Yes i do, i recommend Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, best platformer on the system, challenging, great boss battles and amazing music :)

By wait do you mean because of the NX?

I expect the NX to be a handheld rather than a home console and even then I don't expect it soon. So if you are interested in the Wii U and want to play the games on it then yeah I'd say it is worth getting. Although that said, it might be worth waiting until after E3 just in case they have a price cut or something planned.

Yes I wholeheartedly recommend it. It has amazing exclusives and you won't be disappointed with the other features like Miiverse

It's a great system, really. It's totally worth your money.

Ok then, then the Wii U is gonna be my third console under the TV (next to the PS3 and PS4). Need to finish moving and then I'm getting one.

Just like what everyone else has said, yes, It is worth it.

Maybe looks for a re-furbished/pre-owned one for cheap and then get some games for it, also If you have the money I recommend a Pro Controller, Its very comfortable and you could invite a friend to play with you as well! :)

Waiting for a price cut is always beneficial since it allows you to buy more of the games you want once you finally do purchase it. It depends on how much you value the current library of the Wii U though. If you feel its worth the price for what you're getting, then go for it!

I wouldn't worry about the NX too much though, I have a feeling it'll be a portable device. Even if it were a home console, unless Nintendo goes PowerPC again I don't think it will be backwards compatible with Wii U anyway.

If it has games you want, get it. If it doesn't then don't. It is a decision that only you can say if it is worth it or not. I guess I can give you my view, but it probably won't mean much to you.

Personally, I bought the wii u at launch and I kind of regret it. There have certainly been games that have come out that I have enjoyed, but nothing amazing really. Of course, Nintendo still hasn't released a new Zelda game which is my favorite Nintendo franchise, so that is part of it. Wind waker is a nice hold over, but since I had already beat it on the GameCube, I wasn't that engaged.

That being said, the wii u does have my most anticipated game coming out in xenoblade chronicles x. So as soon as I get my hands on that I will be pretty content with my purchase. Right now I say the wii u is a fine option, just not a great option.

In my opinion, yes. I've had hundreds upon hundreds of hours worth of fun on it and the future looks brighter than ever with games like SMTxFE, Fatal Frame V, Zelda, Splatoon, XCX, Mario Maker, Star Fox, etc.
