Forums - PC Discussion - Cities: Skylines Sells 1 Million Copies

Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order, the developers behind the PC-exclusive city builder Cities: Skylines, have anounced that the monumentally successful game has smashed through the 1 million sales barrier since its release on March 10.

Regarded as a new standard for the city-building sim genre, Cities: Skylines has managed to spawn a staggering 33,000 mods since its release, all of which are available to download through the Steam Workshop. The game has had an average of 21,000 concurrent players playing the game online since launch.

Commenting on the continued success of the game, CEO of Paradox Interactive Fredrik Wester said, “We continue to be amazed at just how players have embraced Cities: Skylines. The game is still selling at a steady pace, which is remarkable for a game that has been on sale for well over a month. Once again, we want to thank everyone that has supported and continues to support this game.”

Cities: Skylines is now available for purchase for $29.99, with a deluxe edition available for $39.99 that includes five in-game historical monuments.

Well it is an amazing game, it deserves it. I hope more companies show other companies up.

Colossal sales! Very impressive.

I was one of them. Saw so many positive videos about it on Youtube I just had to jump in.

Spent about 8 hours over the weekend on it, first game to take me away from GTAV since last year. Absolutely loving it.

I don't much do PC gaming, so I don't get why Steam keeps popping up a serial key every time I boot the game, there doesn't seem to be anywhere to input it, and the game doesn't even seem interested in the key. What's this about?

EDIT: Oh, one complaint: key binds on Mac are kinda whack. Took me ages to find out how to increase the height of roads/bridges.

I have the itch to play a city builder game, and Cities: Skylines looks great. I just wish I could run it :(

This is very well deserved, they saw the disappointment caused by Sim City 2013 and gave the players exactly what they wanted. I hope EA is kicking itself in the butt for what they've done to SimCity.

I'm actually surprised the Jim Sterling hasn't done a Jimquisition episode on this success story vs EA's blunder, that's right down his alley.

I didn't think I'd be able to run it (13" mac book pro with no dedicated gpu). Hell, the official specs says that this thing requires a dedicated gpu. It totally doesn't.

Not sure how you could test it on your rig without first spending the cash though, which sucks. Shame demos aren't a thing anymore.

Hmm, maybe there is hope.

When I compare my laptop to the minimum specs for the game over at http://www.systemrequirementslab.com it says I fail to meet the minimum specs for the video card. Here are the results:

So, maybe I can run it after all if you have no problem without a dedicated gpu? It is a shame that there is no why to test it without purchasing. Maybe I'll take a gamble.

The chip in my MBP is the "Intel Iris Pro Graphics", maybe find the spec of that and compare with what you've got.

For the rest of my specs: https://www.apple.com/hk/en/macbook-pro/specs-retina/ (fourth column). On top of GPU, I think the game is actually quite CPU intensive, a lot of AI routines to run, every "citizen" is real with an actual home, job, daily goals to achieve, etc.

Thanks! I've do a comparison with my laptop to see where I stand.
