Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Voice Chat Dropped from Splatoon Over Toxicity Concerns

It's funny how inconsistent Nintendo is with communication in their games. You have games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing where you can freely talk with randoms, then Mario Kart and Smash Bros. only allowing friend chat, and finally Luigi's Mansion and Splatoon where you can't communicate at all. Make up your mind!

when you see an inconsistent message it is because thought didn't actually take place.

wrt to splatoon,.. this is an after the fact excuse to try and explain away and obvious omission not a conciencious decision.  it is a corporate lie.

While I do agree that voice chat can be toxic and there are a lot of immature morons, couldn't they have just added voice chat support with friends?

It's a nintendo system. My friends would be sitting next to me XD

I'm pretty sure Splatoon only has one local multiplayer option and you run around popping balloons? :/

I guess real life Pokemon/Animal Crossing friends and strangers are nicer and safer for kids than a shooting game that require more complex controls

I was gonna buy this game, but if that's the case, forget it.

I wonder the same thing. They did it with Mario Kart right? It doesn´t make sense not implementing it  in Splatoon.

For me, the lack of voice chat is no big deal.  I never use it. I may use skype or any other tool to chat with them thought the PC, if really necessary. Still, I do think this was a huge mistake. This  is a team game, and communication between members is essential.

Mario Kart 8 has voice chat?

I think its kinda silly not to include voice chat. I know that a lot of people are probably going to say 'oh well, you can still use a VOIP service.' but that requires a headset which wont let you hear the game. I'm not to keen on voice chat anyway, but I know a lot of people are. Fact is, most console based voice chat is slurs, curses, and static feedback. I would have just turned it off anyway, but an option to at least be able to chat with a buddy whos going to buy a Wii U just for this game would have been nice.

“What I say is, a town isn't a town without a bookstore. It may call itself a town, but unless it's got a bookstore it knows it's not fooling a soul.”  - Neil Gaiman

Why not just give us an "enable voice chat" option?

When did you say you were gonna buy it as it was online multiplayer focused from the get go. And yes MK8 has voice chat with friends while in the lobby.

Next to hardware limitations, I was assuming this was the case..

I personally don't mind because I would mute everyone anyways
