Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm ready. Advise me on my 8th-gen console purchase.

Which console should I buy

PS4 62 46.62%

Xbox One 10 7.52%

Wii U 46 34.59%

just get a PC, loser 15 11.28%

Total:133

Next month I will buy an 8th-generation home console. A PS4, an Xbox One, or a Wii U. I will only buy one of these this generation. I'm ready for some new games to play on a bigger screen. Already have a 3DS, Vita doesn't interest me, already played most of the PS3/360 games that do interest me, so I'm looking strictly at the new generation here. I have already saved up the dough, so the initial price is not a big issue.

A note about multiplayer. I have absolutely no intention of paying a subscription to access online multiplayer. Given I intend to own this console for several years, even the "low" price of PS+ and XBL will add up to a significant amount that I don't want to pay. You may think this gives the Wii U an edge in this department. However, I have recently moved across several states and am therefore about a thousand miles away from all of my existing friends. Making new friends to play video games with could take a while, as "Do you want to play Super Smash Bros" isn't exactly the first question I ask somebody when I meet them. This means local multiplayer is also off the table for the foreseeable future. The end result is that the only multiplayer experiences which can be immediately available to me are online multiplayer on Wii U.

I don't want to get too much into my personal gaming tastes. All three of these consoles have games I would enjoy playing, I'll leave it at that.

I already have a 3DS. Xbox One and Wii U adds up to over $500 in hardware expenses even if I buy them used. That is something I'd like to avoid. You also named Halo 5 -- do you really think it is worth buying for the campaign alone?

I give your reply a Didn'tReadOP/10.

I say the ps4 is the most safest bet because it will get plenty of third party games as well as plenty of exclusives if u don't have a gaming PC plus it has the best versions of the multiplat games between the consoles so I say go with the ps4 or the wiiU (cause u do like Nintendo games and it is up to you if Nintendo games outweigh the ps4's library for ur tastes)

PC. And if it truly has to be a console, PS4 or Wii U.

Aha, I have the perfect solution for you. No no, no need to get all tight with the pursestrings just yet. Let me tell you that if there is one console friend, one console that absolee-ootley fits your requirements and preferences, then that console, yes that console is none other than the Wii U. A fantastic library and rock bottom prices for online multiplayer, you certainly cannot go wrong with this choice. Yes, hands down, one wiiu please.

hurrah, another satisfied customer

If you can, PC.

If it has to be a console, get PS4. You're getting a good library of third-party games, as well as great exclusives like Bloodborne.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Well, if you don't already have a decent PC, that should be your first choice.

Outside that, PS4. No question. Best (console) hardware, best (console) software support.

Up to you to decide, really

I chose the Wii U for the Nintendo exclusives but other features like off screen play comes in handy when people use the TV often.
