I think it's formal name will be: Nintendo Entertainment Experience.

But it'll be more commonly known by an acronym: NEX

So similar nomenclature as NES, SNES. Gotta rekindle the glory days, amirite?

When I think about how to name a system I think about how it will be said in real life, by kids, and consumers at large.

NEX is interesting, but I feel like the marketing landscape has changed since those days, sort of like how television changed the political landscape.
A good name needs to be unique (for search results in google), roll off the tongue, and sound interesting with the brandname before it while simultaneously giving life to the conceptual product.

I just picked up an NEX. Is that available on NEX? Do you have an NEXes? hmmm I dunno. maybe. Definitely an good possibility.

Could also alternatively be known as "Nintendo X"

I think whatever the name is, I think they're trying to communicate some kind of cross-platform experience.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Around the Network

I really like the NX name too. And if no one else said this, they can also call it a Nintendo NeXus. The alliteration sounds good on the ear.

I agree, but I think it also has something to do with inter-relationships as well, not just software, but users in an environment. We've seen this kind of trend with the streetpass, and several wii/U free software titles.

I went ahead and look up synonyms for these kinds of things.
linkage
tie-up
loop
unite
union
affinity
fusion
mingle
synthesis
amalgamation

I think nintendo would probably choose a word like one of these and then try to find an offshoot. Like, wii is supposed to symbolize two ideas:
We, as in playing with your friends
and whee! as in Whee this is fun

EDIT: additionally, I think this new system will have a lot to do with amiibo, cards, and the new pillar of "QoL". taking things that are non-video gaming, and making them fun.

Yeah I saw that last night. What do you think of that?

It's possible that the rumor is simply untrue, but if I were Nintendo I would think that was the best strategy.

Ajua! Android games on my NX!

And I think the name will be Nintendo Fusion. It sounds very good! NX is just the codename (Nintendo crossover)

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Posting previous news:
The Wii U is a bomb- a complete and utter, dismal failure, of the kind that the mainstream gaming industry has not seen since the Sega Saturn. It has a great lineup, and Nintendo has done its best to support it, but its lifetime sales still aren’t even matching those of Sega’s Dreamcast- two and a half years after its initial reveal.

In a context such as this, with all games output for the Wii U basically drying up, all eyes are on Nintendo’s next console, the NX, announced under mysterious circumstances, but not discussed at all. Nintendo has remained cagey about it entirely, deferring all conversation and discussion of their next throw of the gauntlet to next year, but in an interview with NPR, famed Nintendo mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto let slip his aspirations for the system.

“After Wii U, we’re hoping that [the NX] will be a very big hit,” he said.

He also discussed the reasons for the Wii U’s failure in a surprisingly candid answer.

“I don’t think it’s just price, because if the system is appealing enough, people will buy it even if the price is a little bit high,” Miyamoto said. “I think with Wii U, our challenge was that perhaps people didn’t understand the system. But also I think that we had a system that’s very unique — and, particularly with video game systems, typically it takes the game system a while to boot up. And we thought that with a tablet-type functionality connected to the system, you could have the rapid boot-up of tablet-type functionality, you could have the convenience of having that touch control with you there on the couch while you’re playing on a device that’s connected to the TV, and it would be a very unique system that could introduce some unique styles of play.

“I think unfortunately what ended up happening was that tablets themselves appeared in the marketplace and evolved very, very rapidly, and unfortunately the Wii system launched at a time where the uniqueness of those features were perhaps not as strong as they were when we had first begun developing them. So what I think is unique about Nintendo is we’re constantly trying to do unique and different things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they’re not as big of a hit as we would like to hope.”

Whatever the reasons for the Wii U’s failure – and there are many – I hope that Nintendo has learned a lot of lessons from the Wii U’s failure, and that it has taken a good, long, and hard look at how it approaches the console market. They cannot afford to fail again with the next system. It is now do or die time for them.

I think it will be a good idea, you still can play 3DS/WiiU games on WiiU/3DS, thanks to NX, and emulate Android game which support by Nintendo and Amazon

Anyway

– Q3: Consecutive launches of 3DS and Wii U were a failure. 3DS recovered with a revised price, but Wii U can’t. Will NX suffer too?

As you say, the launches didn’t go well. Especially the Wii U. The 3DS was restructured domestically with several measures. The Wii U has not been restructured. Looking back, the DS didn’t sell very well right away, but was propelled by Brain Training. Ideally sales would start well, but only Wii has really done that. NX was announced as a new platform alongside the DeNA venture. The NX was announced then to indicate that we are not retreating from game platforms and will continue the hardware business. Normally, the announcement would’ve been made later. It was like revealing a magic trick ahead of time. New proposals require surprises to follow. Such information on the NX won’t be announced until 2016. No announcements today. Third-party hardware selections are based primarily upon install base numbers. Several unannounced collaborations with 3rd-parties are making progress.

I don't know if anybody said that already but i think this would be the best scenario for NX reveal:

2016 They release a handheld capable to do wii u graphics at a lower resolution, so all the games that will release to wii u will be ported to the Nx, like the new zelda, a possibly new metroid and animal crossing. So the Wii U owners would be happy and NX would have a massive release with a new pokemon plus the wii u ports. 2017 after a constant release of games exclusively to NX, they release the home console part of the NX (capable to do wii u graphics at a bigger resolution) with a new mario 3d adventure and pikimin 4 (also NX exclusives).

Features:

The NX(hc) and NX(hh) will have the same OS, so a NX game can be played on both devices in their settings respectively

The NX(hh) can be synchronized with the NX(hc), working like a wii u gamepad

Edit: The Name: Nintendo GameFusion
