Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people want Last Gen to die now? Cross-Gen Multiplats sell better its a fact

I am really annoyed by the people who are calling out that older consoles have to die, mainly the cross gen games who are still in devolopement like Mortal Kombat X or Metal Gear Solid 5. But look at the sales numbers and you can see cross-gen games sell better than Next-gen only games
Taking the numbers from this site and choosing evolve and dying light as examples who are 8-Gen only multiplats right now. Both games pretty much floppped commercially.
I made a comparison below of new IPs who were released in Q3.2014-Q1.2015 and i am leaving out the PC versions from all these games as evolve was longer out for this system but dying light wasnt.
So i am looking at all of these new IPs first 2 weeks console sales and you allready can see that Evolve and Dying Light who chose next gen only had pretty poor sales even for next gen systems.
Neverless even with these poor sales you can clearly see that the Cross Gen games got an adionall boost from older consoles, some got over 50% what each evolve and dying light sold, some even outsold them like destiny has. Alien isolation sold also poorly but if you take 8 and 7th gen versions both together it still sold more than dying light in its first 2 weeks.
Cross-Gen games
Destiny, new gen = 4008.959k  old gen = 1172.027k
Shadow of Mordor, new gen = 1034.908k old gen= 290.692k
Alien: Isolations, new gen= 336.521k old gen= 124.743k
The Evil Within, new gen = 774.597k old gen = 340.423k

New Gen ONLY games
Dying Light = 544.017k
Evolve = 699.986k

and keep in mind i am only counting new IPs here recently released. I could also put watch dogs in there which had amazing sales or i could put call of duty, far cry 4 who arent new IPs but having all strong sales for last gen systems.
People who say last gen console versions have to die because it is sucking devoloping cost and making a loss are wrong.
Imo its only not making sense for devolopers who arent good at porting to different platforms. Turtle rock for example wasnt good at devoloping last gen, do you remember they didnt release left4dead on the PS3 because of the more complicated architecture?
So of course for studios who have expierence with only 1 last gen console its better to cancel last gen alltogether but as the numbers tell they are paying the price now.

Its so that the developers can put all their efforts in making games for only the current gen instead of splitting their efforts with current gen and last gen

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Why? Because current new games will be vastly more powerful and impressive. That's why.

Because they are talking about game quality when they say that.

Evolve was hated by almost everyone who bought it see the metacritic it got a 4.4 by the users. And dying light got also mediocore reviews too from users and reviewers. Both games also dont look graphicly impressive.

I dont see a reason why the Old Gen versions had to be sacrificed for both titles.

You don't see it?

Developers already have trouble to deliver a good product (although Dying Light's user feedback is more on the positive side) on the limited amount of consoles they work on, but you believe that adding more platforms would improve the quality? That's certainly not how it works. The fewer platforms, the more polished a game can be. Hence why actual exclusives have the highest ceiling and therefore can be the most impressive games on any given system.

Alien Isolation and Shadow of Mordor were better received than Evolve. Evil Within and Dying Light the same. And you as a nintendo fan shouldnt be happy about someone calling 7th gen to die, it also means there is no possibility at all porting games to the Wii U dueto same PowerPC architecture like the Xbox 360 has.

They don't even port to the Wii U even if there is cross-gen so it doesn't matter if fully move to current gen.

Perhaps they could just bring in more people or another studio to handle the last gen port job? Something we've seen on numerous occasions.

Anyhow, it doesn't really matter at this point. Developers are moving away from 7th gen simply because sales have declined. Support is leaving fast in spite of userbase.

As I mentioned already, numerous publishers just bring in another studio to handle the last gen ports. Fewer platforms doesn't guarantee higher quality either.

Some of the most enjoyable 8th gen games are multiplat. Maybe that's because those titles aren't focused entirely on pushing cutting edge visuals and put some focus on gameplay.
