Forums - Gaming Discussion - New Nintendo Platform Teased at Conference, "NX"

Oh I thought he said later this year?

My mistake

No problem, the translators are low-talkers, it's taking me a lot of effort to hear above the chatter around me.

Online reports say:

At a press conference in Tokyo to mark the deal, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that the company is working on a next-generation system codenamed NX. No other details were revealed, and the system is likely some way off; Nintendo won't release more information until next year.

Next year at least means they won't be backstabbing New 3DS buyers...

Hmm.. I wonder when they will say more about the "NX"!

Anyone else here think NX and their mobile platform (similar to App Store or Google Play) will be heavily compatible. 1 account, some cross buy/save/play. Its like the Fusion idea but for mobile/NX with NX being the premium device with games unplayable on mobile. Pushes those with an account already to take advantage of the other platform. I also think their mobile platform could be subscription based. Imagine of one was paying a subscription on mobile that could give benefits on NX, kind of pushes them to check out the handheld too.
What are we all thinking??

Well this was unexpected to say the least. But QoL news should be coming soon, and a new console too. We got the GBA micro after the DS came out after all so it wouldn't be a major surprise.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The Fusion concept of a console and handheld sharing the same infrastructure so that they'll have the same games that are scalable is a potentially great model.  With the console version being the higher graphic-pushing one of the two and the handheld one being well, portable but still good looking.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Nintendo's "NX" turns into:

Nintendo Fusion (console)

           and

DS Fusion (handheld)

At least they threw us a bone as reassurance that they're not giving up on dedicated hardware.

Of course not, this new mobile platform could actually be a good push for their handheld division if handled correctly.

If being the key word; Nintendo have messed up a lot lately.
