Bad idea ...

RPGs are one of Nintendo's weaker areas when it comes to that genre ...

Is it? Nintendo's RPG's tend to have quite decent reviews. Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Pokemon, Mother (Earthbound), Xenoblade, and Golden Sun are quite well acclaimed Nintendo RPG series. I'm trying to think of a shitty RPG produced by Nintendo. Maybe I have a good mental wall to remove it from my memory though.

Also if an RPG is Nintendo's weaker area, wouldn't it be a good idea to address such a weakness?

Yes it is ... Despite what reviewers say there's a lot of people who find them somewhat underwhelming ...

Golden Sun is not developed by Nintendo, they just so happen to own it. They don't exactly produce crappy RPGs but their not exactly what anyone would call great or amazing ...

I'd honestly prefer it if Nintendo didn't try to address their weakness with RPGs. Those games are very hard to get right so it's best that they avoid it ...

That could be said for any game. I guess you are saying it's your personal opinion, but the tone of your post made it seem like you believed it was a consensus opinion.

Really because Fire Emblem is considered great especially the recent one Awakening, Paper Mario games and Mario and Luigi series are considered great by many people so I don't know where you're getting this from. As RPGs go they're quite solid in the field their RPGs just aren't your typical JRPGs.

They aren't exactly flying off the shelfs ...

I remember when Nintendo consoles, namely the SNES, was the greatest source for good RPG's.

Of course, that was when Square Enix was Squaresoft and didn't suck, so it was a long time ago.

Still, Xenoblade was incredible. Mario and Luigi is a pretty good series too. And Zelda. You can't beat that. No idea what you're talking about.

Isn't that what Xenoblade X is?

Not really even close to what I'm thinking of. Xenoblade is more of a JRPG(or CRPG whichever you perfer to call it). You have set characters with set appearances with set moves you get at set levels. I'm talking something more like you pick your characters appearance and gender, you decide if you want to use them to heal with, attack with, cast spells with, shoot people with.

How about Zelda?

I know some people will say 'that's not an RPG', but come on it plays just like one the only thing it hasn't got is a leveling system, but other than that it is pretty much an RPG.

Zelda is more Action Adventure than Action RPG. I'm talking something where you do level, that you collect gear, not items(bow, hookshot, bombs, etc.) that influences your stats. Something where you define your experience more than having a every playthrough end up with the same items and equipment.

I don't get why people always say Zelda isn't a RPG. It means Role Playing Game. Not Role Leveling System Playing Game.

Exactly. People always assume RPG's require a levelling system.

Look it up, Zelda is an "action-adventure role playing game".

Pokemon is not flying off the shelfs? Earthbound/Mother doesn't have a cult following? Paper Mario games didn't sell between 1-3 million? Mario & Luigi for the 3DS didn't sell almost 2 million? If sales mean anything in regards to quality, then all of these games are better RPGs than something like Persona or Tales of.

Wait, Mario & Luigi is an RPG ?

Fire Emblem Awakening is probably decent and I don't exactly see many heralding Paper Mario as one of the top tier RPGs ...
