Forums - Sony Discussion - What are Sony's "B Tier" games?

Who would have the greatest Boon from B-Tier exposure.

Vita 11 27.50%

Wii-U 14 35.00%

Xbone 4 10.00%

3DS 2 5.00%

PS4 9 22.50%

Total:40

I'm not talking about crappy ones, I mean the ones that aren't quite as famous as Uncharted, God of War but still have and warrant a series. (Nintendo really needs a game that initializes as 'GoW' with "oW" meaning "of War" but that is another thread completely.)

Basically I want to know Sony's equivalents to Nintendo's Pikmin, Fire-Emblem, Metroid (lets be honest), Kirby, Xenoblade, etc. - I was having a fun chat about whether or not trading demos of 'B Tier' first-party games accross consoles would influence consumer distribution but then realized how much I'd gain from that as someone who has never owned a Playstation but is interested in one this generation (PCs, Xboxes and SEGAs have historically accompanied my Nintendo machines but never a Playstation).

Plus it'd help me to envision how companies putting demo's of their games on rival platforms to try and break 'brand-loyalty' might go down. So please suggest B Tier titles you'd like to see happen...

And yes I included Xenoblade explicitly to highlight the fact that one incredible game with a 100% confirmed sequel counts. If something has more than two games already and had a release last gen, you can safely count it regardless of sequel limbo.

On which platform?

Ratchet / Sly (And previously Jak / Ape Escape)

WipEout. Everybody's Golf.  Twisted Metal.

I'd tentatively say Gravity Rush for the time being, too.

Would be the receptacle or which Sony platform would you be borrowing from? Series with multiple installments from Sony, atleast one of which was on the PS3/PSP games and which are likely to get a PS4/Vita release, or Sony series with previous installments anywhere which are confirmed for PS4/Vita games.

As for the console recieving; the core concept for the demo would be ported to both of the other two home consoles and (if possible) the 3DS.

Hate to say it, but my beloved Ratchet and Clank. Also Sly Cooper, WipEout, Team Ico games (if we'll ever get any more), and to some degree InFamous, although it could also be considered A-tier.

I wouldn't be surprised if "The Last Guardian" ended up mirroring Nintendo's "Pikmin 3", being worth it for anyone who payed attention but also being fleeting bliss in the grand scheme. It took Nintendo nearly a decade after Pikmin 2 (April 29, 2004) for Pikmin 3 (July 13, 2013) to happen. Ofcourse one hopes The Last Guardian doesn't cross into Kid-Icarus territory in terms of waiting!

Maybe Resistance, Jak & Daxter, Littlebigplanet and Killzone, although they are arguably A tier.

Definitely Ratchet and Clank, Infamous, Sly Cooper and Wipeout though.

Pretty sure Infamous is A-Tier by now.

I can't comment one way or the other since Infamous is one of the games that has caught my interest for the PS4 but I would suggest to bare in mind that I'm ranking Metroid as "B Tier" in the Nintendo example in my opening post.

San Diego baseball games, almost all 2nd party games like Heavy rain (even though it became huge) and beyond, killzone, wipeout, evolution studios games generally, david jaffe games (except God of War), Japan studio games.

Noted that Japan studio is massive and when they do make games, they make tons of them. So 10 B rated games vs 2 A rated games could be quite impactful.

A is Naughty Dog, Polyphony, God of War. I think resistance used to be A but fell down to B.

C is shovelware, playstation move, and indies.

Is Sly Cooper owned by Sony? I know it's only available on PS platforms which is a shame really.

It should be a Nintendo ip. =D
