Forums - Gaming Discussion - VGChartz 8th gen first-to-third party ratios

Thanks to all who participated in the poll and post votes! It's been much better than last year's 7th gen ratios, although we had some rough beginnings with the Xbox they pulled through and made some votes. I've updated the OP of all the individual poll threads with a comparison between the post votes and the anonymous poll votes. (Links: 3DSPS VitaPS4WiiUXBox One)

Maximum post votes were obtained by Nintendo WiiU (29) and 3DS (21), Sony got PS4 (13), Vita (11) and Microsoft Xbox One (9). Meanwhile in the polls the quantities were a little higher: WiiU (138), PS4 (65), 3DS (64), Xbox One (40) and PS Vita (27).

When putting these poll votes all together, we get these Chartz:

I'm not going to put my conclusions right now, but let these histograms do the talking.

Looks like the PS4 is the most balanced system so far. This is a great scenario for both Sony and third parties.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Yea, the graph isn't very surprising and it makes sense really

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Wii U dominant at the high end as you would expect.

Not much to shout about outside of first party releases on that system after all

It will be interesting to see how things evolve for PS4 and Xbox One.
Not sure if I want to redo the polls during the summer or wait till next year.

Now the WiiU, the votes show a bimodal distribution. That happens when two sets with different distributions are combined. In this case it looks like Nintendo users who buy 50-50 titles (common during the Wii generation) and those who mostly buy 1st party titles.

I'll also repost what I put in the WiiU thread:

I have more VGChartz data for Nintendo's home console from previous poll votes of the Wii era:

Wii 2010 to 2013 already saw a slight shift towards first party, nevertheless the VGChartz collection was still mainly 50-50. In 2014 WiiU's result had its maximum ratio in the 60-80 range; one year later (and with less third party releases) it's become a bimodal distribution between the 50-50 and the 1st party camps.

It will be interesting to see the further shift towards 1st party in next years poll

Actual statistics, data collection, and analysis with an open thread for discussion regarding the sales.

It's almost like you would think this is a website geared towards data tracking of video game sales.

But seriously, thank you for your efforts, OP. This is a very telling graph and I can't wait to see what other users think.

Thanks RCTjunkie. Let's see if it spurs more discussions, although the results are also evident and not controversial enough!
