Forums - Nintendo Discussion - According to MyNintendonews Captain Toad Bombed :P

Slightly disappointing news for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker fans as it would appear as though the game may have sold no higher than 250k units in North America so far. Nintendo of America has yet to reveal official numbers for the game so we won’t know for sure, but it failed to break into the top ten best-selling video games in the United States during December.

Thanks, Shuhei Yoshida

I did write a post there under guest that selling 400k in 2 regions is no way a bomb for such a small budget game as this

Well, it had a lot of competition. It's a small game competing with some of the biggest games of the year. Also, I don't think it bombed. It will make a profit even with small sales. Soon it will become a 15$ title or less.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Nintendo releases something new and it bombs. I am shocked. The people who criticize Nintendo that they always make the same game are all talk. Is there any doubt that Splatoon will be a huge failure

Captain Toad must've been incredibly cheap to make for Nintendo (made in about a year, shorter than usual games, basically entirely reuses assets and music(?) from 3D World). 250k in the US in one month? I think Nintendo's very happy with that.

In no way, shape or form did this game bomb. It's actually sold incredibly well in just 2 regions in under a month, especially for a spinoff game.

It's impossible to know for sure without budget details, of course, but I'd be shocked if Nintendo considered that a disappointment. In fact, I'd wager that it did well enough that Nintendo will probably feel good about producing more cheaper spin-off titles. If it were me, I'd push bigger planned projects back to the next console and fill the Wii U up with more Captain Toad type content.

For such a game it was good I believe. Plus this is only NA.

I see it getting 750K Lifetime.

Seriously, That game didn't cost an enormous amount of money to Nintendo to make. Having near 500K sold in such a time is still good, and they probably already made a profit.
