Forums - Gaming Discussion - Driveclub sold only 84k in the US.

Digital sales for this game were high.

I don't really care about the USA. All I care about is that Driveclub was successful enough to warrant a follow up, and clearly it was ... Well actually IS because it's still selling pretty well.

The PS5 Exists.

According to NPD, Driveclub sold 84k since launching on October 7th. Why are the sales of this game so low? Was it the online issues? Did it got shut out be games like Call of Duty? Or a combination of both of these? Or is it something else?

Thoughts?

What is your source? When did NPD start revealing numbers again?

The game was massively bundled and had big promotions on digital. Not to say that I'm not surprised because it could have done a lot better, but with all things taken into account, those numbers are still alright.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

But Driveclub was originally promised as a free game for PSN Plus users. At the time I was surprised it was selling in retailers at all. But now I'm surprised it didn't have better legs considering we never had the free version and there's no word on when we will.

PS+ version was supposed to be just a sampling of the game (offering about 1/5 of cars and tracks). The idea was to let everyone "demo" it and then upgrade dugitally to a full version at a discount.

But then it ran into problems, they gave all subscribers a discount from the start and canned the free version.

I strongly suspect that they will just end up giving the full game for free in a few months.

I just started recently and after 1 race was about 900k on the overall leaderboards

So yeah, close to 1m have the started the game worldwide. That's all I know

People probably read the reviews that went over the games big flaws. Plus the demo Sony put at retail is terrible, really highlights the shit AI and terrible penalty system (which they have fixed, a little).

With the weather and photo aspects being added, the game seems to be getting a second life purely for eye candy though.

Don't

Probably due to the mediocre reviews it got at launch, combined with the game being more of a tech demo for PS4 than anything else.

Racing games have sold well in the US, but it's only the biggest, most recognizable IPs that sell (GT, NFS, Midnight Club, Forza, etc), and many of these franchises have been suffering from "burnout" lately due to so many releases over the years, pardon the pun.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Driveclub still needs alot of work. The tour mode needs to be totally redone, the AI and the actual racing makes you feel like its the 90's all over again.
