No one should even defend this practice, it's a basic screw you to late adopters. It's a essential part of the product. All the other companies that did this and similar practice got the same flack for doing do so, Nintendo should be any different.

It's not hard but for all the money that Nintendo supposedly has in the bank, that could make them last for 20 years on loss every year or whatever people like to spew, you would think they could spare a mother fucking charger. It's a charger! It's essential (IMO). I've never gotten an electronic in my life without some sort of chrage if it needs it.

Not saying I agree with the lack of a charger but maybey petty seeming decisions like this is WHY Nintendo has money in the bank and are profitable ...

Option? The option!? I don't want the option! Who do they think they are deciding for me whether to have an option? I want to get stuck with two chargers when I only need one! What the hell Nintendo!? WHAT THE HELL!? I can't even afford $10, $5 for refurbished with 90-day warranty. What jerks, assuming out of the blue that I can spare $10. |
You actually bought that weakass excuse!?!?

What's weak about it?
Baffling display of cheapness. Almost as bad as the Vita memory card deal, but at least with the memory cards there is some semblance of a (still BS) excuse - you pick the size of the card you want. Here...I dunno, I guess there are two options, AC and car, but I imagine most folk only get car after already owning at least one AC adapter. What's next, Apple & Samsung gonna stop packing in AC adapters with their phones because, heck, everyone has a few laying around now so who cares? Is Sony going to stop packing the charge cord for the PS4 controllers in with their system? Imagine the uproar...
But hey, if the Nintendo fan base is okay with this, more power to 'em. Oh, wait... >_>
You know vg, the more I think about it, the more I wonder how much it costs to manufacture one of these chargers in question. We're used to getting a charger right out of the box for any electronic at an agreed-to price but how often do we consider if the price of the charger was factored into the total price for any hardware? How often, when we buy anything, do we start counting up the total cost of getting said product from manufacturing plants to store shelves? Have we benefited from publishers no longer including color-printed booklets for example?
If Nintendo had just priced the N3DS at $209.99 with charger included, would this thread even exist? In its place, would a thread regarding Nintendo's odd pricing have been here instead, a thread that would die very quickly as people just moved on from disinterest?
By removing the charger, Nintendo deviated from the norm saying it's doing this to lower the cost of the box. Is this true? Does anyone here have access to Nintendo's financials? I imagine Nintendo keeps these numbers to themselves so I looked up the prices for lone chargers for various things on online retailers and they range from around $2 to up to $15. How did we get these varying prices? I found similar pricing for mere usb cables we've probably come to expect to be available right out of the box. Again, how often do we ask how these cables factored into the total cost of a retail unit it had come with?
