Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does The Division Look To Disappoint? Graphics Downgrading?

The Division's 2013 trailer shown blew me away in terms of graphics (lighting, physics etc) though the player interactions did seem highly unrealistic and staged. Its an MMO even though they are trying to pull off complete immersion. The game is also open world, and if its one thing ubisolft loves it's open world collectathons.

I just have a hard time believing that this game will be anything special since the graphics will be inevitably downgraded to be playable on consoles and the interesting mechanics and locations will probably be choked by the unrelenting persistence of Ubisofts open worlds.

As we all know Ubisoft are the masters of overhyping their games to the levels of the second coming yet they all seem to underdeliver in the most disappointing ways. Good examples are Watch Dogs which had some of the most shallow mechanics and interactions I have ever seen, and Assassins Creed Unity that is the same game we have all played for the past 8 years. What do you guys think about The Division?

Yea, I think its gonna get downgraded! Heck, I will be surprised if there isn't going to be a downgrade at this point

I don't trust anything from Ubisoft these days other than their smaller projects like Rayman or Child of Light. They've just proven that they can't efficiently do massive, realistic, big-budget games without fooling the consumer into thinking they're way better than they actually are. Which is a shame.

Definitely will be downgraded. After Watch Dogs, and the Assassins Creed fiasco, I think a very large number of gamers are rightfully wary to put faith in Ubisoft delivering on what they originally showcase.

100% it will be downgraded. No way in hell are those type of graphics possible on the PS4, at least not yet.

I mean, I'm gonna shoot it down without giving it a fair shake, but I won't be surprised when it does happen. Plus most Ubisoft games are mediocre anyway, especially the AAA ones. This one most likely will carry the torch. It's Watch_Dogs x Destiny. That's all.

I was never fond on The Division and i think it will be a not-so-good game, but at the same time i also don't like the mentality of ''oh graphics have been downgraded, shit game, no buy'' - which is not new btw and i've seen especially this gen, even with Wii U games! - which im not implying anyone here has, but his thread relates, why do people even do this to themselves? unrealistic standards fueled by the companies of course that in the end do more harm than good

I think companies are pretty much going to quit showing game-play until it's almost set in stone. It's a no-win situation otherwise. What happens if you need to dial back effects somewhat to get in some nifty game-play features? The internet erupts about being lied to, even though ALL early footage comes under the "subject to change" modifier.

Honestly, people piss me off every year. It's the same cycle of annoying overreactions. "OMG OMG DID YOU SEE THAT IT'S AWESOME GOTY HELL YEAH I CAN'T WAIT," which then turns into angst because said game did not match the mythical level of "hype".

Ubi aka the new Ea, yes it will likely disappoint.

I'll take a wait and see approach. I'll give them a fair chance until they prove to me otherwise.
