Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft's act of extreme desperation actually worked! Will it continue now?

What acts of desperation are you talking about? In the spring they introduced a kinectless SKU, having one for 499$ and one for 399$. Granted, a Kinectless SKU was never planned from the beginning but was probably a wise decision. The only price drop was this fall to 349$/449$. This is a tactic MS has used several times with the 360, so why so surprised?

I am quite sure Sony will dominate this generation but the best thing would be if they were matched or outperformed in some regions, because competition is something we as fans always benefit from.

PS2 dominated the 6th generation, and things were great. Big competition is not always needed. I prefer one console with nearly all the great games like PS2.

Of course big competition is needed. We saw what Sony did with PS3 and how hard they had to push the console. Sony was arrogant when they launched the PS3 and they definitely underestimated how big of a success the 360 would have been. The PS4 as it is now is a direct implication of what happened last gen and Sony going for 8GB ram is most probably because MS also had it in Xbox One.

I agree with you on a lot of levels. PS2 gen was the greatest ever IMO, and it was because there was one dominate console. Thanks to that Sony was able to try out many new franchises, 3rd parties were able to build some of the best games as they only had to focus on one platform. Sony was also able to do things like motion gaming with the Eye Toy, and best of all, towards the end of the generation they lowered all first party games from $49.99 to $39.99, and even some third parties followed suit.

I also loved the attitude of Sony back then as well. The difference now is that Sony is in a completley different place. Back then they were profitable, and the stocks were twice to three times what they are today. It would have been great if MS had thrown out this $349.99 price only for Sony to knock them out with a $299.99 holiday special. Unfortunalty I don't think the share holders that saw a 1 Billion dollar loss and no dividends last quarter would be pleased, and it could have lead to major issues.

As for whether Microsofts all out desperation event will carry momentum going forward. Only time can tell. I think PS4 has a lot of good things going for it this year, and I hope the CES Keynote today will bring even more. With PlayStation Now getting into full gear this year, PlayStation Vue finally brining IPTV to the US, and a list of exlusive games that greatly outpaces the competition hopefully our US brothers will see beyond the price tags and marketing and choose the better console.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Hehehe... Why would this happen to be true if one starts with a post like KBG29 into a discussion...

also another recurrent negative tradition on PS is the fact that they get a lot of exclusive japanese titles that they DONT promote/advertise or even mention at shows like E3, Gamescom etc... if they just advertised those games more we wouldnt hear so many people saying that the PS4 has no games... when people look at the PS4 exclusive games for the holidays all they see is Little Big Planet 3...

and when i see that lineup for the Holidays i see LBP 3 and this awesome game:

(it even got a higher metacritic score than LBP3)

And before someone jumps on me telling me that its also on PS3 i will say this: and so what? TitanFall was on PC, Xbox 360 and X1 it was both a crossgen game and a console exclusive... in other words the only platform it wasnt available in was the PS4, and that didnt stop microsoft from promoting the game and getting a boost in sales thanks to it and the bundles...

but that is same issue with xone, games like Project spark/D4 name it were hardly mentioned in the Xone Xclusives line up.

Yeah, gonna have to lock this thread I'm afraid. Given your history there's only one reason this thread was made, and only one way it was ever going to end.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
