Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Confirms New Console, Evidently Powered by AMD

The Wii was in full planning WITH a tentative name and public statement 30 months from launch. The successor system to the Wii U isn't at that stage even so what does that really tell you?

I didn't see any confirmation and anyway of course Nintendo is working on their new hardware in one form or another and have been since the last one was completed. It's not like they fire their whole hardware division between generations and re-hire them when it comes time to throw together a new console.

If they're going with AMD it's no handheld.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Eh not expecting this until 2017 at the earliest.

Console still won't release until 2017 at the earliest.

AMD makes arm chips too... and we dont know if nintendo handhelds stay on arm or if they realy try to fuse them with homeconsoles(or maybe the next homeconsole gets an arm chip as main...)

For their sake in the market, I hope they wait out until the PS5/Xbox2 come out to release the new console and that it is comparable in power. Nintendo needs third party back more than ever, and if the make the mistake of releasing a new console too soon like they did with the Wii U, they will crash and burn again.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

8 Million Wii U's sold in 2 years.
16 Million PS4s sold in 1 year.

Yeah, not that difficult to predict we would be seeing a new console sooner rather than later. Wii U just isn't selling and there's only so much Nintendo do to profit from it.(Like Amiibo). I fully expect all Wii U titles to be playable on their next console though.

I do hope they don't call it "Wii" though. That brand is dead. Time for something new. I suggest the "Nintendo Ultra 4K Blow You Away LOL Mobile Gaming What Is That? HD" aka the "Nintendo U4BYALMGWITH"

I'd predict a new handheld announcement in either 2016 or 2017 and a release in 2017, and a new home console announcement in 2017 with a release in 2018

The GameCube wasn't selling well either and it still held on to the usual 5 year lifecycle, I'm sure they'll do the same with the Wii U. Nintendo might make a lot of stupid mistakes and decisions sometimes, but they know not to be Sega. And I don't think they'll be stupid enough to keep the Wii brand either - though I don't think they'll go for Nintendo, but rather try to create something new like they did with the DS/Wii in the 7th gen.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the market much bigger right now than it was back then? Isn't the Wii U selling below Gamecube levels?
