Even with black friday, big releases for 3ds , ps4 and xone The ps3 was The best software seller. Maybe sony's promise of 10 year life cycle ( with good games, not the shitty games consoles tends to get when they are already diyng.) will come true

Not exactly surprising, more games + larger install base + most next gen games also on last gen = more games sold

The PS3 is turning quite the profit in it's last few years with extremely strong SQ sales plus the PS3 is way over priced. It could get a price cut and still make a profit. I wonder how much of the initial loses have they made back in the last few years.

PS3 total software will pass the Wii SW out pretty soon too.

I don't know about that. Without further shrinks for main components like the Cell or the XDR ram there won't be lower costs per unit and the PS3 sales are declining, which usually means higher costs per unit.

A shrink at this point in time might not make sense either, because it takes thousends of hours of work from expensive experts, several test runs to check and improve yields (also must pay for production lines not making money for the chip factory etc.) etc etc etc - it's a costly investment they might not make back, especially if they use reduced production costs per unit to offer the console at a lower price.

production has necome a lot cheaper since the last price cut ages ago. They can afford at least 1 more big price cut and will do so next year IMO. After that who knows but if they want to keep sales trickling they will. The reality is every week atm it's selling over 5M SW units. It has a lot of software sales left in it yet and the thing with the pS3 that the PS2 didn't have is, long after stores stop selling all the games, you will be able to still buy them off PSN. 

I'm always surprised when I see old consoles like XBOX 360 and PS3 still selling this far into their life cycles. I'm like, "who didn't own these things for the past 10 years?"

and PS3 users upgraded faster than xbox users because 360 players are still satisfied. Guess that explains PS3 selling more software :/ 

No. What doesn't make sense about the PS3 owner not being satisfied as 360 owners is the simple fact that the PS3 is selling quite a bit more than the 360.  And yes the software.  There were a few weeks where the PS3 outsold the Xbox One...

Edit: Never mind,  you are right as well,  the PS3 software sales crushed everything else this year.
